Jewish Museum seeks Collections Strategist for Development Project Would you like to be part of developing work with Swedish-Jewish cultural heritage? The Jewish Museum's collection currently consists of approximately 1,800 objects, 5,000 photographs, and around 50 archives that tell the story of Jewish life in Sweden from the 1700s to today. The collection represents a material cultural heritage from one of Sweden's national minorities and contributes important perspectives on Swedish history. The Jewish Museum is in a development phase and is now seeking an experienced collections strategist for a time-limited project with a focus on strengthening and further developing the museum's collections management. About the Project As a collections strategist, you will be tasked with reviewing existing methods together with the museum's curator and antiquarian, and developing structures, policy documents, and procedures for the museum's continued collections work. The project is both strategic and operational. You will map the current state, identify and prioritize development needs, and translate these into concrete guidelines, procedures, and policy documents. An important part of the work is creating structures that are well-suited to the Jewish Museum's operations and can be used and further developed by the organization after the project period ends. During the project period, you will work with collections policy, crisis and contingency planning, as well as procedures for documentation, acquisition, loans, rights, and other central aspects of collections management. You will be an important addition of expertise to a small museum where the distance between idea and implementation is short. The project offers an opportunity to make a concrete difference in how the Jewish Museum's collection develops, is documented, and managed long-term – and thereby contribute to strengthening the museum's role as a resource for Swedish-Jewish cultural heritage. Responsibilities Your responsibilities will include: mapping and analyzing the museum's existing procedures and methods within collections management and identifying priority development areas reviewing and further developing policy documents, guidelines, and procedures for collections work developing a crisis and contingency plan for the collection participating in updating the Jewish Museum's collections policy developing and quality-assuring procedures and documentation for acquisitions and loans reviewing procedures regarding personal data, rights and licenses, as well as metadata and terminology contributing strategic perspectives on museum storage and long-term collection management documenting and anchoring developed methods so they can be maintained within the organization collaborating with museum staff and, if necessary, with other museum and cultural heritage institutions. The responsibilities will be prioritized and defined together with the museum based on the project's scope. We Are Looking For You If You have solid experience working with museum collections and collections management and are comfortable switching between strategic development work and practical implementation. You have experience translating established standards and principles for collections management into procedures and methods that work in actual operations. Since the project is time-limited, you need to be able to quickly familiarize yourself with an organization, identify what is most urgent, and independently drive the work forward. You work in a structured and solution-oriented manner and are skilled at making complex issues understandable and usable for others. At the same time, the work is close-knit and collegial. You therefore need to enjoy developing solutions together with others and be able to adapt recommendations and working methods to a smaller organization's conditions and resources. Qualifications We are looking for someone with: relevant university or college education, or other education and experience that we consider equivalent several years of experience working with museum collections and collections management experience developing or revising policies, policy documents, guidelines, and procedures in the collections field strong knowledge of Spectrum and experience applying the standard in practical collections work knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations in the collections field, such as GDPR and copyright experience with digital collections management systems, such as Primus or equivalent very strong ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish and good ability to work in English Merits It is a merit if you have: experience with crisis and contingency planning for museum collections experience with issues related to museum storage and preventive collections management an established network within the museum and cultural heritage sector knowledge of or experience working with Swedish-Jewish cultural heritage, national minorities' cultural heritage, or related areas We place great emphasis on personal suitability and your ability to carry out a qualified development project within a limited timeframe. Employment Terms Employment form: Time-limited project employment Scope: Full-time Employment period: October–December 2026 Start date: As soon as possible, with desired start date of October 1, 2026 Salary: Monthly salary The project employment initially covers three months. Provided that additional funding is approved, there may be an opportunity for extension. Work is primarily conducted at the Jewish Museum in Stockholm.
