Would you like to work with legal issues that have great significance for Sami culture, reindeer herding conditions, and sustainable societal development? We are now seeking a qualified lawyer who wants to contribute legal expertise in the areas of reindeer herding, land use, and urban planning. About the position As a lawyer at Sametinget, you will work with qualified legal advice and case handling in matters concerning reindeer herding, land use, natural resources, and urban planning. You will analyze and assess cases based on current legislation, case law, and administrative decisions, and represent the organization in various processes and collaboration forums. You will be one of two lawyers in the department for Sami industries and will work closely with our chief legal counsel on complex and strategically important legal issues. The role involves being central support to management and operations, as well as contributing to the development of legal positions and guidance within the field. Duties Prepare and handle cases and provide legal support in matters concerning reindeer herding, land use, and urban planning. Analyze legislation, case law, and administrative decisions. Draft statements, responses to consultations, and other legal documents. Participate in consultations, negotiations, and dialogues with authorities, municipalities, businesses, and other stakeholders. Represent the organization in legal proceedings and matters. Contribute to the development of internal guidelines and procedures within the legal field. Qualifications Law degree. Experience with legal work in public administration. Documented experience with legal application in reindeer herding matters. Strong knowledge of relevant legislation in land use, natural resource management, and urban planning. Excellent Swedish and good English, both spoken and written. Desirable qualifications Experience working with Sami rights and indigenous peoples' issues. Knowledge of environmental law, mineral legislation, or planning and building legislation. Experience exercising authority in a state agency. Experience working as a court clerk. Knowledge of any Sami language. Knowledge of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, international conventions, and European human rights instruments. You are confident in your legal expertise and have the ability to handle complex issues where different interests meet. You work in a structured manner, are communicative, and have a talent for building trusting relationships both internally and externally. You enjoy working both independently and as part of a team.
