Your New Role
As a specialist chemist, you are part of the team that provides the Swedish Work Environment Authority with chemical expertise. The work is independent but involves continuous collaboration with other case handlers in the unit and across the agency. Some domestic and international travel may occur.
As a specialist, you are responsible for:
Reviewing and evaluating scientific documentation as a basis for establishing occupational exposure limits.
Advancing the Swedish Work Environment Authority's knowledge of current and future chemical risks in the work environment.
Participating in the development of regulations and creating guidance for current regulations.
Participating in the development of new EU directives in the chemical field.
Supporting occupational health and safety inspectors on chemical workplace risk issues.
Collaborating with other authorities, organizations, and the research community.
Responding to inquiries and consultation requests from other authorities, government departments, and organizations in the chemical field.
Developing materials and communicating with our stakeholders.
Responding to external inquiries from, for example, media, labor market parties, and interest organizations.
About You
We believe you will thrive in this role if you have the ability to apply your knowledge and experience flexibly in new situations, if you have strong confidence in your own ability to handle challenges, if you communicate with clarity and give others room to provide feedback for you to act on. Furthermore, you ensure that your work is conducted in a structured manner and you are comfortable establishing new contacts both within and outside your own organization. The role requires that you have:
University education of at least 180 credits (120 credits under the old system) in chemistry or toxicology or equivalent, as assessed by the employer as equivalent.
At least five years of professional experience in chemistry or toxicology.
Knowledge of chemistry or toxicology and the ability to review scientific literature.
Fluent Swedish and good English skills.
It is advantageous if you have:
A research background with experience reviewing and evaluating scientific documentation.
Professional experience in the chemical industry or in the occupational health and safety field.
Experience working practically with risk assessments in the chemical field.
Professional experience in either inorganic chemistry, quartz, occupational hygiene, or handling pharmaceuticals in the workplace.
An employment with us may result in the position being placed in a security classification. Security vetting with or without criminal record checks may therefore be conducted before an employment decision is made. For some of our work tasks in the security classification, Swedish citizenship is required. Security vetting is conducted in accordance with the Security Protection Act (2018:585).

How We Recruit
We use competency-based recruitment both to ensure quality in the recruitment process and to counteract discrimination.
