Who are we?
Archaeologists is part of the Swedish National Heritage Board and is a major consultant in archaeology and cultural heritage. We are over 100 employees at our five regional offices in different parts of the country. We work across office borders both in networks and in projects. At our offices in Stockholm and Uppsala, we operate within an area that encompasses the Mälardalen region and Norrland. We are in an expansion phase with several ongoing and upcoming major investigations, including the Ostlänken railway.
We want to strengthen our competence to carry out archaeological assignments of high quality and deliver solid documentation to the regional administrations in the region. That's why we need to expand our staff.
Who are we looking for?
We are now recruiting a number of archaeologists in project-leading positions. We will recruit on a continuous basis during summer/autumn 2026.
We are looking for someone with education and experience within one or more of the periods Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age, as well as Medieval/Historical periods, and who has the ability to apply this within the framework of contract archaeology and the Archaeologists' areas of activity.
Your assignment will be to lead and participate in projects where you collaborate with your colleagues and take responsibility for goal achievement and other activities, as well as participate in other projects as a project member. This requires that you are a team player with a high degree of professionalism, developed collaboration skills, that you are communicative and contribute to a good working environment.
An important part of the assignments is to maintain and develop good relationships with both internal and external partners and to be a curious observer of the external environment.
You will work with assignments throughout the region, based at our office in Stockholm (Hägersten) or the one in Uppsala. Work in projects run by our other offices in the country may also occur.
To succeed in the role, you should have:
Academic degree in archaeology or equivalent.
Documented experience of project management within contract archaeology
Good knowledge of archaeological method and theory
Documented experience of archaeological field and report work
Good experience with digital documentation techniques
Driver's license for a passenger car
You must be fluent in Swedish, both spoken and written
It is meritorious if you have:
Higher academic degree and/or have a specialization within the subject area
Experience writing bids
Published scientific articles in peer-reviewed publications
A network within the respective subject area
Experience in outreach work

Within Archaeologists, we work across regional boundaries and because our geographical region is extensive, weekly absences occur.
The position is a permanent employment starting by agreement. We apply a six-month probationary period. Your place of work will be at the Archaeologists' office in Stockholm (Hägersten) or Uppsala.
