Project Manager for Urban Development Projects
Do you want to take the next step in your career while becoming a key person in one of Sweden's most spectacular urban development projects?
Kiruna is in the midst of an unprecedented urban transformation – an entire city is being relocated and rebuilt from scratch. This involves complex land issues, strategic decisions, and the opportunity to work on projects that normally happen only once per century. We are now looking for a lead project owner who wants to step into a central role and contribute with experience, comprehensive perspective, and confidence as we develop the Kiruna of the future.
Here you will work closely with decision-makers, influence long-term urban development issues, and lead projects that will leave a mark far into the future. If you want major challenges and the opportunity to be part of planning and implementing a societal transformation, Kiruna is the place where your expertise will truly make a difference.
Why Kiruna?
Kiruna offers something that few other places in Sweden can match:
- One of the country's most extensive urban development projects
- Spectacular surroundings – from midnight sun and northern lights to mountains, nature, and outdoor activities
- Space, proximity, and balance – here distances are short and everyday life is simpler
About the Position
As project manager for urban development projects, you are also a portfolio manager, and you become one of those who ensure that the societal transformation projects become reality – from the early stages to implementation. You work both strategically and operatively and:
- Lead the ongoing coordination of the project portfolio on behalf of the portfolio owner (municipal director)
- Prepare matters for the portfolio steering group, maintain the portfolio's overall objectives, dependencies, priorities, reporting, follow-up, risks, and deviations
- Ensure that main projects and projects work toward the development plan's goals
- Have the mandate to coordinate, request information, initiate preparation, propose priorities, propose start, pause, or restart, and escalate issues to the portfolio owner or portfolio steering group
- Are the portfolio's engine and overall bearer. Work proactively, make target conflicts visible early, reduce duplicate work, and create synergies between main projects, projects, and assignments
Here you get to be part of a department with short decision-making processes, great responsibility, and engaged colleagues within urban development.
Who Are We Looking For?
We are looking for someone who is confident, experienced, and curious – someone who is used to driving complex development processes and wants to continue developing.
We believe you have:
- Relevant higher education, such as in construction and engineering, surveying, urban planning, or similar
- Documented experience with development projects and/or municipal land management
- Experience collaborating with many stakeholders and building trusting relationships
- Ability to work independently, in a structured manner, and with a solution-oriented approach
If you have previously worked in a politically governed organization, we see that as a merit.
We Offer
- Meaningful work where you influence the development of an entirely new city
- Pleasant working environment with engaged colleagues
- Good balance between work and leisure
- Free training up to 5,000 SEK/year
- Access to the municipality's mountain cabins
- Opportunity for salary exchange to additional days off
- An inclusive workplace culture where respect, responsibility, and collaboration are guiding principles
