Description of the Workplace The Neurodegenerative Diseases Research Group focuses on defining and understanding biological processes in Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. We analyze large datasets collected from patients and cognitively healthy volunteers who undergo comprehensive assessments including neuroimaging, biomarker measurements, and neuropsychological tests. Our group applies advanced statistical methods to these unique and state-of-the-art datasets to model processes related to aging and disease. The Project Assistant will join a growing multidisciplinary team of neuroscientists, statisticians, biologists, and engineers dedicated to advancing our understanding of neurodegenerative diseases. The long-term goal of our research is to contribute to the development of new treatments for neurodegenerative diseases where effective therapies are still lacking. The research group is led by Dr. Jacob Vogel, and the position is located at the Biomedical Center (BMC) in Lund. Responsibilities and Areas of Responsibility Our laboratory investigates heterogeneity in Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology expression in living humans. We have identified major AD subtypes and use various approaches to further understand them, including multi-omics data, postmortem histopathology, and compilation of comprehensive tau-PET imaging datasets. The Project Assistant will support this work by processing and analyzing large-scale tau-PET data, adapting existing analysis pipelines, and analyzing new data. Other tasks within the research group may also be assigned. The position may also include international travel to support education and career development. Qualifications For this position, the following are required: MSc. in engineering, neuroscience, statistics, quantitative biology, physics, mathematics, or a similar field At least 3 additional years of relevant research experience beyond MSc Fluency in the programming language Python or R Experience with curation, preprocessing, and/or brain imaging data Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written High intrinsic motivation Meritorious qualifications include: Direct experience with tau-PET data analysis Experience working with large datasets (>2000 individuals) Strong publication record demonstrating the ability to conduct high-impact research Experience working in the field of neurodegenerative diseases Experience with git and GitHub Competence in Linux-based parallel computing systems with high computational capacity Other Information The employment is a special fixed-term contract (SÄVA) for 6 months with a preliminary start date of October 1, 2026, or by agreement.
