About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now seeking additional staff. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. When we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation services, remand facilities, and prisoner transportation. The Mariestad operational area encompasses the closed prison Johannesberg, the country's largest open prison Rödjan, and Mariestad Remand Facility. Mariestad currently has approximately 360 employees distributed across various professional categories and competencies. Construction has recently begun on a new closed prison scheduled to be operational in 2027. Job Description As an important part of efforts to prevent recidivism and work according to the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's vision "Better Out," comprehensive program activities are conducted for clients both in groups and individually. Treatment programs are manual-based and conducted with high quality and in accordance with evidence-based practice principles. They are primarily based on cognitive behavioral therapy and social learning theory. As a program leader, you work with group treatment for a number of inmates with emphasis on group process, but also individually depending on which program the client is to complete. Within the Mariestad operational area, various programs are conducted, including programs aimed at clients whose criminal behavior is linked to substance abuse or clients who have committed crimes against their partner, former partner, or close relatives. The programs used within our operational area include problem-solving, social skills, Life Goals and Self-Control, Preventing Domestic Violence (Predov) individual program, Relationship Violence Program (RVP) individual program, and Krimfokus, which is a CBT program conducted in groups based on areas the participants need to work with. The varied program offering means that you will simultaneously lead several different programs. The program leader's main responsibilities are to plan, lead, develop, and follow up on program activities at prisons Johannesberg and Rödjan together with correctional officers and other program leaders. Together with other staff, you are responsible for security and order matters during treatment work. Good cooperation with both other program leaders and prison staff is important. The position also includes administrative tasks. Qualifications We are seeking someone who is confident, stable, and has self-awareness. You have the ability to communicate clearly and work easily with other people. In stressful situations, you remain calm and have the ability to make correct assessments and prioritizations. You have a good understanding of how people acquire knowledge and adapt your way of conveying information based on the recipient's circumstances. You must also have a physical condition that allows you to act physically if the situation requires it. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect you and others.
