Luleå University of Technology is now establishing a new research subject in Production Systems. The subject will be established at the Department of Engineering Sciences and Mathematics within the Division of Product and Production Development. The subject will contribute to education in several civil engineering programs with emphasis on mechanical engineering. The subject will also conduct doctoral education. The new subject and its representative are expected to collaborate with several other subjects and center formations at the university. The subject is also expected to build up laboratory resources. Subject Description Production Systems focuses on analysis, design, control, and continuous improvement of industrial production systems and value streams in manufacturing and process industries. The subject encompasses the development of production systems with particular emphasis on flexibility and adaptability under changing technical and societal conditions. Job Responsibilities The position as Professor and Subject Representative includes overall responsibility for leading and developing the subject including research, doctoral education, and education at basic and advanced levels. The Professor and Subject Representative has special responsibility for ensuring financing of the activities and for contacts with the surrounding society. A central task is to establish and develop long-term the new research subject Production Systems. This includes building a strong research and education environment, developing doctoral education and laboratory resources, and creating national and international collaborations with academia, institutes, and industry. The Subject Representative is expected to create good conditions for doctoral students, colleagues, and students to develop and contribute to the subject's long-term development. The position as Professor and Subject Representative is a permanent employment. Qualifications To be eligible for employment as a professor, one must have demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical competence. Equal care must be given to assessing pedagogical as well as scientific competence. To meet the requirements for employment as a professor, the applicant shall be outstanding within their field of specialization and demonstrate scientific activities of high international standard, showing clear quality progression have a total scientific production that in quantity corresponds to at least three doctoral dissertations including the applicant's own doctoral dissertation demonstrate academic leadership, through experience with research-related positions of trust such as expert, opponent, and/or member of examination boards experience in leading research projects experience in competitively seeking and receiving external funding for research projects as principal applicant experience with internal assignments within the university experience in pedagogical leadership have experience in supervision at the doctoral level and, unless special circumstances exist, have been the main supervisor for at least one doctoral student from admission through doctoral degree demonstrate pedagogical competence through reflected experience, teaching competence, and teaching development demonstrate ability to collaborate with the surrounding society, including making new knowledge accessible to society incorporating societal needs in research and/or educational contexts. In addition to the qualifications required for professor, special weight shall be placed on leadership ability when recruiting a Professor and Subject Representative, including experience with personnel responsibility and personnel development self-awareness and ability to reflect on own leadership experiences demonstrating experience with budget responsibility or other financial responsibility. Assessment Criteria The following assessment criteria apply to this position: Scientific competence Pedagogical competence Ability to lead and develop activities Other assessment criteria Other Assessment Criteria These are weighted in the following order: The degree of competence that is a requirement for eligibility Ability to obtain external research and development funding Ability to contribute to the development of the subject, division, department, and university leadership groups Experience with personnel responsibility and personnel development, where experience in leading and developing both junior and senior personnel is sought Administrative competence that is significant given the subject content and the work tasks included in the position Ability to collaborate within the university, with partners, and with the surrounding society Ability to communicate about research and development work Ability to teach in Swedish and/or English. Within a three-year period, we would like you to be able to communicate in Swedish.
