Department of Clinical Sciences
The Department of Clinical Sciences conducts undergraduate education, research, and doctoral training within the scientific fields of veterinary medicine and animal care. We contribute to continuous knowledge development regarding animal health and diseases at both individual and population levels.
The Department's activities primarily focus on common Swedish domesticated animal species with emphasis on anesthesiology, diagnostic imaging, animal care, epidemiology, laboratory animal science, surgery, clinical chemistry, medicine, and animal reproduction. Additionally, SLU University Animal Hospital (UDS) is an integrated part of the Department.

Field Description
The field is large animal surgery with focus on equine, but also ruminants and pigs are included.
Responsibilities
The position holder shall within the subject of employment
develop and lead internationally successful research
develop, lead, and participate in teaching at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels
develop and maintain national and international networks with academia, relevant authorities, industry, organizations, and society at large
collaborate with other research groups within SLU to strengthen the University's interdisciplinary activities
seek external research funding at both national and international levels
mentor doctoral students and candidates in specialist training
actively participate in clinical work and teaching
contribute to the strategic development of the Department, Faculty, and SLU
communicate research results and other relevant subject information to the surrounding society
perform administrative tasks within the Department, Faculty, and University.
The Department has a parallel language work environment. The Professor will be able to perform most of his/her tasks in English. As a public authority, the University has Swedish as the main language according to language law requirements, and the position holder is expected to be able to communicate in Swedish within two years from taking office. The Department will support the position holder in achieving this.
Qualifications
Applicants must
have a degree in veterinary medicine
have Swedish veterinary license, or be entitled to obtain one in accordance with current applicable legislation, regulations, and directives*
have a doctoral degree and associate professor competence or equivalent scientific competence
be scientifically skilled within the subject of employment
be pedagogically skilled and have the ability to integrate research and a scientific approach in their teaching
have documented current clinical experience within a subject relevant to the employment
have good knowledge of English.
