The department conducts education and research in industrial economics, industrial design, and mechanical engineering. A common foundation for the activities is to develop knowledge about industrial systems, organizations, processes, flows, and products with regard to social, economic, and ecological sustainability. The department has strong connections to the surrounding society, and students, teachers, and researchers work in close collaboration with industry and authorities. Responsibilities As a Professor in Mechanical Engineering, you dedicate your working time to both teaching and research, as well as associated collaboration. Teaching includes planning, implementing, evaluating, and developing courses at basic and advanced levels. In mechanical engineering and industrial economics, we offer education at the engineering, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels, as well as doctoral education in the subject. Teaching at the basic level is conducted in Swedish. Work is also underway to develop a civil engineering degree program with a planned start in fall 2027. The programs have access to extensive workshop resources, such as a model workshop, workshop for bio-based materials, woodworking shop, metal workshop, machine shop, and 3D printing workshop. Research includes initiating, conducting, and reporting research, supervising doctoral candidates, and seeking and obtaining research funding. An important part of the position is contributing to increasing external research funding and enhancing collaboration with the surrounding society. Qualifications The requirement for employment is a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering, industrial economics, or another subject that the employer deems equivalent, with subject specialization in product development, production development, or sustainable production processes. To be eligible for employment as a professor, you must have demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical excellence. Additionally, you must have: Had scientific production of high quality that substantially exceeds the requirements for the position of docent in quantitative terms. Published research results in problem areas beyond the field that qualified you for your doctoral degree, or alternatively conducted considerable broadening with respect to method or theory within the field that qualified you for your doctoral degree. Been the principal applicant for, and in competition sought and obtained, research funding from external national and/or international funding organizations. Served as primary supervisor for at least one doctoral candidate from start to completion. Demonstrated academic leadership in research activities and pedagogical activities. Worked equivalent to at least 2 years full-time with teaching assignments and acquired extensive experience in pedagogical activities including planning, implementation (teaching and examination), evaluation, and development of education. Completed higher education pedagogy education equivalent to at least 10 weeks of full-time studies or acquired equivalent knowledge in another way. Good ability to express yourself orally and in writing in Swedish and English. Good ability to collaborate within relevant national or international research networks and with the surrounding society. Good ability to cooperate and build good relationships internally and externally. The work involves considerable freedom in organizing your work, which is why the applicant needs to demonstrate good initiative and independence. The work also places high demands on your ability to structure and prioritize your tasks well and your good administrative ability. As a professor with us, you are expected to take overall responsibility for our future development. We are seeking someone who is willing and able to assume formal leadership positions within the institution. Previous leadership experience is therefore a merit. In the appointment process, consideration will also be given to how the applicant can strengthen and complement the department's research and teaching in the subject area.
