Workplace Description We are now seeking engaged and driven decision-making process officers for the Border Police Unit. Region Stockholm comprises Stockholm and Gotland Counties and has approximately 7,000 employees. There are four police districts within the region: North, City, South, and Gotland. Additionally, there are four regional units: the Border Police Unit, the Operational Unit, the Intelligence Unit, and the Investigation Unit, as well as an office that reports directly to the Regional Police Chief. The Border Police Unit is a regional unit at Region Stockholm that works with border controls, internal alien controls, enforcement of refusal and deportation decisions, investigation and surveillance of human smuggling, violations of the Aliens Act, and cross-border international serious organized crime within Stockholm County and Gotland. The Border Police Unit has regional responsibility for international contacts regarding border police matters, intelligence, and wanted person notices. The decision makers belong to the Border Police Unit's enforcement section and are currently located at Kronoberg, but will move to Gärdet on September 1, 2026. Job Description As a decision-making process officer in the border police, you ensure quality assurance of alien affairs activities and make decisions in alien cases. Currently, decisions concern internal and external border controls, but will eventually focus on controls and decisions regarding coercive measures within the country. You write statements, conduct oral detention hearings, and represent the Swedish Police Authority in the Migration Court. In this role, you function as a legal expert and strategist, staying updated on legislation and case law regarding national law and EU law within the areas of migration, freedom of movement, return, and crime prevention. Your work also includes receiving calls from police employees together with case officers and handling and administering cases. Additionally, you will have contact with and cooperate with other actors such as the Swedish Migration Agency, the Prosecution Authority, and the Correctional Service. Your work includes conducting confidentiality assessments and providing guidance on administrative law matters. As a decision maker, you will partially direct the work of employees in the enforcement section. You provide support and develop your employees in legal application and subject matters. You are expected to acquire and maintain relevant knowledge for your assignment and monitor legal developments, case law, and guidelines. Qualifications This is an opportunity for you who have: A law degree, police degree, or other equivalent academic education that the employer considers relevant. Experience from work requiring independent and qualified legal assessments where you have needed to apply relevant legislation in complex cases. Experience coaching others in daily legal work. Very strong ability to express yourself orally and in writing in both Swedish and English. The position requires Swedish citizenship. It is meriting if you also have: Experience from clerkship at a general court or administrative court. Experience working with issues related to migration and alien legislation, asylum and residence law. Documented experience of decision-making in relevant work areas. Experience applying the laws that govern police activities, such as the Police Act, the Penal Code, and the Code of Judicial Procedure. In many cases, the Border Police are the last guarantor that the Swedish state complies with human rights obligations under international treaties. It is therefore important that you have knowledge of human rights. In this role, you will make difficult decisions affecting individuals and represent the Border Police Unit in various forums where it is important that you feel confident in that role. We will place great emphasis on personal qualities.
