The Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences, GIH, is Sweden's leading knowledge center for sport, performance development, physical activity, and health. We conduct high-quality research with societal relevance, focusing on people in motion. We educate teachers in the school subject of sport and health, as well as coaches, health scientists, behavioral scientists, sport and health managers, sports scientists, and researchers. GIH has 160 staff members and 1,400 students. The school is located in central Stockholm, close to Stockholm Stadium and a large sports and outdoor recreation area. We are now seeking a postdoctoral researcher for the project: "Broccoli's bioactive compounds for improved glucose control, health and quality of life in older adults" - a randomized, placebo-controlled and double-blind intervention study. Responsibilities The project is conducted in collaboration between academia, industry, and society (GIH, Nomio AB, and the Kamprad Family Foundation) and investigates how daily supplementation with broccoli sprout extract combined with regular physical activity affects glucose control, low-grade inflammation, physical capacity, sleep, and quality of life in older adults (65–80 years). The project is implemented in close collaboration with participating municipalities and elderly care centers in the Greater Stockholm area. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will play a central role in implementing the project and are expected to independently coordinate the study regarding protocol, participant logistics, and measurement procedures. The responsibilities include planning and conducting physiological tests and health measurements, including functional tests, VO₂ max tests, handling of wearable sensors, and analysis of biochemical markers. You will also be responsible for implementing training interventions and supervising and coordinating master's students who participate in the project as instructors. During the project, you are expected to process and analyze research data, interpret results, and contribute to scientific publications. The position also includes actively participating in GIH's research and teaching activities. Qualifications Eligible for the position is someone who has completed a doctoral degree, or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a doctoral degree, in physiology, sports science, medical science, or another comparable field within three years prior to the application deadline. The applicant must also have documented experience in planning and conducting intervention studies as well as substantial experience in physiological testing and functional assessment. Evaluation Criteria The following evaluation criteria have been established for this position: Very great weight is placed on experience in physiological testing and physical functional assessment in older populations as well as experience in coordinating and practically implementing intervention studies, Very great weight is placed on good subject knowledge in areas related to physical activity, fitness, aging, and health, Very great weight is placed on experience working with training intervention, testing, and data collection in the target group of older adults (65-80 years), Very great weight is placed on personal suitability, such as having good collaboration skills, being organized, independent, and having a good ability to coordinate complex research activities, Weight is placed on administrative skills that are important for the tasks included in the position, Weight is placed on good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish and English. Duration/Work Hours Fixed-term employment corresponding to 100% of full-time for 2 years with the possibility of extension. Start date October 1, 2026 or by agreement.
