Description:

Job Responsibilities The next major breakthrough in battery development is expected to be lithium solid-state batteries (SSB). This concept allows the flammable organic electrolyte used in lithium-ion batteries to be replaced with a safer and more compact solid electrolyte. As part of the Swedish national battery initiative COMPEL, which aims to support competence and excellence in battery research and education for the transport sector, KTH is launching a coordinated initiative on composite-SSB with seven postdoctoral positions across multiple disciplines, focusing on different aspects along the battery value chain, from synthesis and cell manufacturing to characterization, modeling, and scaled production. The two-year postdoctoral project: Electrochemical Properties of Solid-State Batteries and Analysis of Interactions Between Their Components will be divided between the Department of Chemical Engineering (Division of Applied Electrochemistry) and the Department of Chemistry (Division of Applied Physical Chemistry). The project will focus on electrochemical and chemical evaluation of components and cells made from materials produced by parallel postdoctoral projects within the initiative. The research aims to achieve a deeper understanding of the structure/performance relationship of the developed electrolytes and to study interactions and interfaces between electrode materials and electrolyte, conduction mechanisms, degradation, and the relationship between manufacturing processes and material properties. The analysis will be enabled by combining electrochemical methods, such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, with techniques such as nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), electron microscopy (SEM/TEM), Raman, and in situ mass spectrometry (OLMS). Qualifications Requirements Completed doctoral degree or foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a doctoral degree in electrochemistry, inorganic chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related field with experience in electrochemistry. This qualification requirement must be met by the time the employment decision is made. Good knowledge of written and spoken English as required for daily work. Good laboratory and instrument skills. Awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues with particular focus on gender equality. Meritorious At the application deadline, no more than three years since completion of the doctoral degree or foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a doctoral degree. Experience with solid-state batteries and well-versed in electrochemical characterization techniques. Practical experience with NMR spectroscopy and Raman. Demonstrated innovative thinking, creativity, and ability to work independently. Good collaboration skills and ability and interest in working as part of a team. We will place great emphasis on personal qualities. Become Part of KTH KTH shapes the future through education, research, and innovation. As a leading international technical university, we play an active role in driving and participating in the transition to a sustainable society. Here you have the opportunity to grow and develop in a creative and dynamic workplace with good working conditions and benefits. Gender equality, diversity, and equal opportunities are a quality issue and an integral part of KTH's values as a university and public authority. Read more about our benefits and what it is like to work and develop at KTH. Trade Union Representatives Contact information for trade union representatives. Application You apply through KTH's recruitment system. As an applicant, you have primary responsibility for ensuring that your application is complete when submitted. The application should contain: CV including relevant professional experience and knowledge. Copy of degree certificate and transcripts from previous university studies. Translations into English or Swedish if the original documents are not issued in a Western European language. Brief statement of why you wish to conduct research, your academic interests, and how they relate to your previous studies and future goals. Maximum 1 page long. References or recommendation letters. The application must be received by KTH no later than the application deadline at midnight, CET/CEST (Central European Time/Central European Summer Time). About the Position The employment is permanent, but for a maximum of two years. A postdoctoral position is a time-limited merit-based employment focused primarily on research intended as a first step in a career after a doctoral degree. Other For information about the processing of personal data in connection with recruitment. An employment at KTH may be classified as security-sensitive. If this applies to this position, background screening of applicants will be conducted in accordance with the Security Protection Act (2018:585) upon consent. In such cases, approval following background screening is a requirement for employment.
