Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked among the world's leading academic institutions. With approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 employees across Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö, we are united in our mission to understand, explain, and improve our world and the conditions of humanity. About the Workplace The Synthetic Immunology research group operates within the Department of Clinical Genetics, where high-quality cancer research with a strong translational focus is conducted. The group primarily works in synthetic immunology, aiming to develop improved cell-based immunotherapies for cancer treatment. The research focuses on rationally harnessing and programming the immune system's capacity to perform complex functions. By equipping immune cells with new generations of synthetic receptors, we develop and evaluate strategies that enhance cells' ability to identify, locate, and eliminate malignant cells. The modified immune cells are studied in both in vitro and in vivo models using advanced analytical methods, including multiparametric flow cytometry and high-resolution sequencing techniques. The department is characterized by close collaboration between research groups and a broad range of specialized expertise across various research areas. This creates an open and stimulating research environment with excellent opportunities for scientific exchange and collaboration. What We Offer Lund University is a state authority, which means you will receive special benefits, generous vacation, and a favorable occupational pension. Read more about working with us on the university's website: Work with us. Duties and Responsibilities We are seeking a motivated and skilled colleague who can work independently while thriving in a flexible and collaboration-oriented research environment. You will work with the isolation and programming of primary immune cells to develop new treatment strategies for difficult-to-treat cancer. A central part of the work involves evaluating the therapeutic potential of the programmed immune cells using molecular and cellular biological methods. The work includes tissue preparation and cell isolation, cloning, PCR, flow cytometry, ELISA, and cell culture, as well as handling of primary human and murine samples. The position also includes customary laboratory tasks related to ongoing work in the laboratory. Eligibility To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, the applicant must have completed a doctoral degree, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree, in a subject area relevant to the position (i.e., biology, biomedicine, medicine, chemistry). The degree must have been completed no more than three years before the date of the employment decision. If there are special circumstances, the doctoral degree may have been completed earlier. Qualifications For this position, you must: • have strong ability to work independently and in a structured manner, as well as excellent collaboration skills, • be able to independently plan and conduct experimental studies and have the ability to handle and resolve unforeseen challenges, • have experience with cell culture and molecular biological methods, • have practical experience with flow cytometry, including analysis and cell sorting, • have documented experience working with animal models. It is advantageous if you: • have knowledge within cell-based immunotherapy, immunology, synthetic biology, and/or tumor biology, • have experience with transcriptomics data analysis, preferably at the single-cell level, • have experience with isolation and work with primary immune cells, • have experience with precise genetic modifications, such as CRISPR/Cas9. Other Information The position is limited-term for 2 years full-time, with possible extension for an additional 1 year. The employment is limited-term according to the agreement "Agreement on Limited-Term Employment as Postdoctoral Researcher-2022-02-01". Start date is 2026-11-01 or by agreement. How to Apply Applications are submitted through the university's recruitment system. The application should contain a personal letter explaining your interest in the position and how the position aligns with your qualifications. The application should also include a CV, publication list, degree certificate or equivalent, and any other documents you wish to submit (copies of grades, reference information, recommendation letters, etc.). The Medical Faculty is an operational area within Lund University, responsible for education and research in medicine, healthcare, and health. Education is conducted in close collaboration with healthcare providers and is well-grounded in the faculty's strong research tradition. The faculty's research spans a broad range of experimental basic research, patient-centered clinical research, and health science research. The Medical Faculty, with over 1,800 employees and 3,000 students in Lund, Malmö, and Helsingborg, is a knowledge-intensive meeting place for students, teachers, and researchers from around the world. The Department of Laboratory Medicine (ILM) is one of six departments at the Medical Faculty. We conduct leading research in the field of laboratory medicine with a focus on disease etiology and improving patient diagnostics and treatment. Some of our strongest areas with world-class research involve cancer, genetics, and blood research. We decline all contact from advertising sales, recruitment, and staffing agencies due to government procurement regulations.
