Description:

Would you like to develop your research and teaching in an environment where collaboration with industry and society is a given? With us, you get to work with engaged colleagues, access to modern research infrastructure, and excellent opportunities to attract external funding. You will have the space to make a real difference for your students, your research, and society at large. Polymer Composite Materials at Luleå University of Technology is now announcing a postdoctoral position. The position focuses on fundamental research on high-performance, thermo-oxidatively stable advanced fiber-reinforced polymer composites. Field Description Polymer composite materials encompass knowledge of the processes and mechanisms that govern performance and properties of, as well as the manufacturing of, fiber-reinforced composite materials. Job Responsibilities You will be part of a research group working to validate experimentally verified physical phenomena using relevant material models, as well as with the development of high-performance composites for a broad spectrum of applications. Project Description The recruitment is aimed at, through fundamental materials science research on the properties of temperature-resistant candidate resins, developing an in-depth understanding of new temperature-resistant material combinations. This understanding will be used to establish theoretical models that describe the relationship between manufacturing and performance. The ultimate goal is to enable continuous use of new materials in highly demanding environments. Qualifications The requirement to be eligible for the position is that the applicant holds a doctoral degree, or equivalent, in composite materials, materials science and engineering, polymer science, polymer engineering, computational materials science, applied physics, mechanical engineering, physical chemistry, or equivalent fields. It is meritorious if your degree was awarded at most three years before the application deadline for this position. If there are particular reasons, it may be considered if the doctoral degree was awarded earlier, for example due to various types of statutory leave. Good ability to communicate in speech and writing in English is a requirement. You should be able to work in a group, take own initiatives, and have good collaboration skills. Other meritorious skills include expertise in materials characterization, particularly of polymers and composite materials. Competence in curing reactions of thermosetting plastics, practical composite manufacturing, thermochemical and mechanical characterization, and modeling of the thermo-mechanical properties of composites is also meritorious, as is experience with X-ray tomography and the application of methods—including AI-supported methods—for data analysis. The person hired must fulfill the requirements that follow from applicable export control legislation and any customer and supplier requirements regarding security and information management. Access to certain information and technology within the assignment is limited according to applicable export control regulations and license terms. Only persons who can be approved for such access according to these rules may participate in those parts of the assignment that are covered by the restrictions.
