Postdoctoral Researcher in Multimodal Foundation Models for Spatial Genomics

The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on cancer, genetic and autoimmune diseases, among others. One of the guiding principles of the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby promote closer collaboration between medical research and healthcare. Research is conducted within six research programs: cancer precision medicine, cancer immunotherapy, genomics and neurobiology, molecular tools and functional genomics, neuro-oncology and neurodegeneration, and vascular biology. Parts of the operations are also integrated with the departments of oncology, clinical genetics, clinical immunology, clinical pathology, and hospital physics at the Academic Hospital. The department has teaching responsibilities in several program educations, standalone courses, and international master's programs within the Faculty of Medicine. The department has a turnover of approximately 550 million kronor, of which about two-thirds are external research grants. The number of employees is approximately 400, of which about 100 are doctoral students, and there are over 850 active in the workforce in total. Read more about the department's activities here: www.uu.se/medarbetare/institution/immunologi-genetik-och-patologi Responsibilities - Develop new computational and deep learning methods to integrate and analyze large-scale, spatially resolved RNA sequencing, imaging, and genotypic data using current state-of-the-art techniques. - Work closely with experimental colleagues and core facilities to understand the nature of generated data. - Coordinate efforts across multiple organizations. - Actively participate in the preparation of manuscripts for publication and present at scientific conferences. - Assist with mentoring colleagues and students. - Share expertise and provide training and guidance to group members as needed. Qualification Requirements - Ph.D. in computer science, computer vision, biotechnology, computational neuroscience, applied mathematics, or equivalent foreign degree. The degree must be obtained at the time of employment decision. Those who have obtained a Ph.D. three years before the application date will be prioritized for employment. The starting point for the three-year period is the application date. Under special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period may be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, union assignments, etc. - At least two first-author papers published in journals with IF > 10. - In-depth conceptual or technical understanding of modern high-capacity molecular technologies in life sciences (RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, immunohistochemistry, CRISPR/Cas, short- and long-read sequencing) is required. - Strong verbal and written communication skills, data documentation, and presentation ability are required. - Experience in writing scientific articles for publication is required. - Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously is required. - Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills, as well as willingness to work in a fast-paced team environment is required.
