The Work Science subject area at Luleå University of Technology is seeking a postdoctoral researcher for an exciting research environment focused on conditions and prerequisites for a sustainable working life. The position is linked to a research project on gender, organization, and preparedness, with a particular focus on the metal and mineral industry. As a postdoctoral researcher in Work Science, you will be part of a research group in a dynamic research environment in close collaboration with industry and universities around the world. Work Science at Luleå University of Technology was established in 1974 and currently has 24 employees conducting research and education in both social and technical fields. Our research is highly interdisciplinary with close collaboration between engineers and social scientists. The research is often needs-driven, conducted in the workplace, and in collaboration with actors in the surrounding society – manufacturing companies, service companies, labor market parties, and other organizations and actors in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. We have projects in, for example, industry (mining, forestry, steel, construction), health and healthcare, schools, and retail. Organizationally, the Work Science subject area is part of the Human & Technology division, which is part of the Department of Business, Technology, Arts and Society at Luleå University of Technology. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will have good conditions to, over two years, qualify yourself primarily scientifically but also pedagogically within our subject area. Subject Description Work Science encompasses research on work environment, technology and production systems, work organization, and other societal processes and environments based on people's conditions and needs to create safe and attractive work and socially sustainable development in working life, industry, and society. Project Description As a postdoctoral researcher, you will primarily work within the research project Personnel Vulnerability and Organizational Resilience – Resilient Metal and Mineral Supply for Strengthened Preparedness. The project examines preparedness in working life and organizations, with a particular focus on the metal and mineral industry's ability to maintain operations during crises and war. Based on work science and gender studies perspectives, the study examines how work organization, skills provision, and personal and organizational dependencies affect operational preparedness and resilience. Special attention is paid to how gender structures in working life and organizations can affect vulnerability and capacity under changed conditions. The project is carried out in close collaboration with actors in the metal and mineral industry and combines scientific knowledge development with practice-oriented research. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will have the opportunity to develop your own research within the project's overarching themes while also contributing to work science research on gender, organization, and preparedness. Job Responsibilities The job responsibilities as a postdoctoral researcher consist mainly of research, which includes collaboration with the surrounding society, research communication, publishing scientific articles in international research journals, and similar activities. In addition to the project, you are expected to contribute to the work science department's other research and education on a gender studies basis. This could include, for example, joint analyses and scientific publications, development of new research questions and research applications, and participation in the research environment's seminars and other activities. Teaching and pedagogical development work may be included in the job responsibilities corresponding to 20 percent of working time. Qualifications To be eligible for employment, a doctoral degree or equivalent foreign degree in work science or another social science subject with relevance to the research direction of the position is required. It is meritorious if your degree was awarded at most three years before the application deadline for this position. If there are special reasons, it may be possible to consider a doctoral degree awarded earlier, for example, in connection with various types of statutory leave. For this specific position, the following qualifications are required in addition to the above: documented experience of research relevant to working life and organization, knowledge of gender studies theories and perspectives and experience in applying these in research, ability to independently plan, conduct, analyze, and publish scientific research, good ability to collaborate with other researchers and with actors outside academia. Furthermore, it is meritorious if you have knowledge of or experience in one or more of the following areas: knowledge of preparedness and civil defense with relevance to working life and organization gender-segregated and male-dominated work organizations and industries, the metal and mineral industry, or other male-dominated work organizations and industries Information For this position, a full-time employment of two years applies with a possible opportunity for extension for an additional year.
