Department of Computer and Systems Sciences. With over 200 employees and 4,500 students, the Department of Computer and Systems Sciences (DSV) is a strong and dynamic research and educational environment. The field of computer and systems sciences operates between technology, humanities, social sciences, and behavioral sciences, with great relevance for how we should live today and in the future. Our research focuses on how new information and communication technology should be designed to benefit people, organizations, and society as a whole. DSV offers a stimulating research community in an international environment. Many of our projects are interdisciplinary and our researchers often collaborate with colleagues at other universities, in industry, and in the public sector. Our research is conducted within nine areas: Business processes and enterprise modeling, AI and data science, Cybersecurity, Digital games and simulation, Digital transformation and governance, Human-computer interaction, Language technology, Risk and decision analysis, and Technology-supported learning. More information about us can be found at: Department of Computer and Systems Sciences. Project Description The postdoctoral position is located within human-computer interaction (HCI), with a focus on adaptive immersive technologies for participatory activities in urban cultural heritage. The postdoctor will work with Assistant Professor Luis Quintero, in collaboration with Professor Henricus Verhagen and Professor Uno Fors at Stockholm University. The project focuses on how we can design adaptive immersive experiences in XR (augmented, virtual, and mixed reality) for cultural heritage and evaluate the potential of contextual data to enhance access to, interpretation of, and engagement with shared experiences. The research will particularly aim to investigate how urban cultural heritage can transition from static reconstruction to shared personal activities that support collective meaning-making. Research activities will be located within the technical and scientific aspects of game design and HCI. This includes developing prototypes that integrate multimodal data collection from motion and interaction streams, algorithmic development for group-aware real-time adaptation, and evaluation using mixed methods of adaptive games and immersive experiences. Responsibilities We are seeking a postdoctor with a technical background in areas such as game design, immersive technologies, and/or computer vision. Preferably with experience in designing interactive prototypes involving immersive technologies, interactive media, and/or games; and competence in conducting empirical research on topics related to technology for cultural heritage, architecture, or related fields. The research has an interdisciplinary orientation and will build on connections between game design, computer science, and relevant social sciences. The postdoctor's main areas of responsibility will include technical development, empirical and design work related to digitalization of cultural heritage, and studies of shared interactions in immersive media. This project is located in an interdisciplinary research group with extensive international collaborations. The postdoctor is expected to present his or her work at international forums and in journals, as well as collaborate with colleagues at Stockholm University and other institutions in the Stockholm region. Qualification Requirements To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor, a doctoral degree or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a relevant doctoral degree is required. The degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. Selection Criteria It is meritorious if the doctoral degree or equivalent has been completed no more than three years before the final application deadline. If there are special reasons, an earlier completed degree may also be considered meritorious. Special reasons include leave due to illness, parental leave, positions of trust within trade union organizations, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or service/assignment relevant to the field of study. Special weight will be placed on research competence in the appointment, and great weight will be placed on personal competence. The following criteria will be used for the candidates: Research Competence: A track record demonstrating excellence in the areas of game design, computer science, and immersive technologies. Independence: Ability to formulate original research ideas and conduct research independently within the areas of game design, computer science, and immersive technologies. Collaborative Activities: Ability to work as part of a team and evidence of active engagement in collaborative research projects. Communication Skills: Ability to fluently communicate research ideas and results in both written outputs and oral presentations at conference venues. Candidates for this position must have cleared step 1 and step 2 in the Digital Futures postdoc fellowships evaluation during spring 2026. About the Position The position is full-time and is permanent, but at least two years and at most three years, with the possibility of extension if there are special reasons. Start date February 1, 2027, or by agreement. Contact Information about the position is provided by the prefect, Assistant Professor Luis Quintero, phone 08-16 11 87, [email protected]. Application You apply for the position via Stockholm University's recruitment system. Attach a personal letter and CV as well as the attachments requested in the application form. As an applicant, you are responsible for ensuring that your application is complete and that it reaches the university no later than the final application deadline.
