Description:

University of Gothenburg meets society's challenges with diverse knowledge. 58,000 students and 6,800 staff members make the university a large and inspiring workplace. Strong research and attractive education programs attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, University of Gothenburg contributes to a better future. The Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology conducts high-quality research and education in chemical sciences and molecular life sciences. Our research and education focus on a deep understanding of chemical and biological processes in cells and the environment. We are responsible for graduate education in Natural Sciences with focus on chemistry, biophysics, biology, and educational science. Additionally, the department hosts education programs in molecular biology, genomics and systems biology, chemistry, organic chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry, as well as pharmaceutical training. The department is an international environment with interdisciplinary collaborations in both research and education, and contributes strongly to University of Gothenburg's top ranking in life science. The department's activities are conducted in Natrium, Medicinareberget in Gothenburg. Professor Marc Pilon's group conducts fundamental research on molecular pathways that regulate lipid metabolism and membrane homeostasis, primarily using the nematode C. elegans as a model organism. Responsibilities The postdoctoral researcher is expected to conduct independent/semi-independent research that utilizes the collection of mutant C. elegans alleles and/or Pilon group's expertise to further advance our understanding of lipid/membrane homeostasis. The position will likely include hypothesis formulation, setting up and conducting forward genetic screens with C. elegans and pathway characterization using combinations of genetic interaction studies, microscopy, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, and other methods. Qualifications To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, you must have completed a doctoral degree, or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met by the time the employment decision is made. Primarily, applicants should have completed their doctoral degree no more than three years before the application deadline. If there are special reasons, the doctoral degree may have been completed earlier. Other requirements: Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written. Doctoral degree, or international degree assessed as equivalent to a doctoral degree, in the general field of cell and molecular biology, completed no more than three years before the application deadline. At least one first-author publication in the general field of cell and molecular biology. Meritorious: Previous experience working with C. elegans. Previous experience with lipid/membrane homeostasis work. Employment The position is a fixed-term contract for 2 years (an extension of an additional year may be possible) on a full-time basis (100%) at the Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology at University of Gothenburg. Start date in autumn 2026. Contact Information for the Position If you have questions about the position, you are welcome to contact Marc Pilon, [email protected].
