Borås City is in an expansive phase with several exciting development projects within the urban development process. The Urban Development Administration plays a key role here. We are now seeking two master planners for the Planning Unit who want to drive development forward. The Administration consists of approximately 110 employees and works with everything from building permits and detailed planning to strategic urban planning, land and development, as well as environmental and climate issues. There is also support from finance and HR functions. With more than 115,000 residents, Borås is Sweden's thirteenth largest municipality and is large enough to offer a wide range of entertainment, culture, and services. At the same time, everything is within convenient distance. The excellent location and the university in the city center make Borås attractive for both residents and businesses. With well-developed public transportation, Borås is connected with Gothenburg and Jönköping to form a labor market region. Much positive progress has occurred in Borås, and many major challenges remain. The Urban Development Administration has an important role in this development. The workplace is centrally located with good services and excellent public transportation. About the Operation The Planning Unit at the Urban Development Administration works with everything from small residential projects to large detailed plans for operational land, urban transformation projects, and complex planning programs. Job Responsibilities You will work on several projects simultaneously and also contribute to developing the Planning Unit's operations forward and provide support to your colleagues when needed. The breadth of projects and developments in Borås make the work as a master planner with us both varied and challenging. As a master planner, you will primarily project lead detailed plans but also work as an assistant case manager on others' projects. You will also have the opportunity to lead various types of development projects. We work in project form on our detailed plans, where each plan is handled by working groups that gather the required expertise. As a master planner, your task is to lead these working groups. This requires good communication, clarity, and coordination both internally within the municipality and externally with consultants, authorities, and partners. You must be able to balance different interests and make trade-offs, manage timelines, structure, and coordination of consultants, preparation of planning documents and materials for political decisions, etc. In addition, you are expected in your work role to provide well-founded recommendations to decision-makers. Political engagement is significant regarding our detailed plans, and there is clear prioritization over which projects we work on. This is reviewed and revised annually. Qualifications You have a strong interest in leading larger projects and have good knowledge of the different phases in the urban development process. You have an interest in leading everything from densification projects, complex urban development projects, infrastructure projects, analytical work in early phases, to cross-administrative development work. You are educated within urban development such as planning architect, architect, landscape architect, or other education that we consider equivalent. You have several years of experience working as a master planner with case management responsibility and experience in driving, holding together your own planning projects and producing required documents. Experience with detailed planning in municipal operations is a merit. Knowledge of current planning and building legislation as well as the Environmental Code is important, as is an interest in good urban development and design. We are looking for someone who is communicative, creative, analytical, responsive, and good at collaboration. You have a good ability to hold things together, plan, and move a work process and working group forward. Because much of the job as a master planner involves communicating with people, it is important that you have good teaching ability and can express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing. We will place great emphasis on personal qualities.
