Språkbanken <http://spraakbanken.gu.se/> at the Department of Swedish, Multilingualism and Language Technology, Gothenburg University is a university-wide research infrastructure and research unit with several ongoing externally funded research projects. Since the mid-1970s, the operation has focused on developing Swedish digital language resources and language technology tools for working with richly annotated text corpora as well as developing and operating language technology-based research infrastructure for the humanities and social sciences. Job Duties You will work within the NordForsk project "Culture-Sensitive Assessment and Adjustment of Large Language Models – Adaptation to the Nordic-Baltic Societies" with tasks that include translating sentences with idiomatic expressions from English to Swedish. Qualifications We are looking for someone with a relevant university degree for translation assignments, documented strong ability and experience working independently, and is comfortable using computers. For this position, Swedish must be your native language. You will work largely independently but also together with others in various larger and smaller groups of system developers and researchers. You will also need to document your work in English, so you are expected to have good knowledge of English both orally and in writing. We place great emphasis on personal qualities such as accuracy, communication skills, and flexibility. It is important that you can prioritize your work tasks and do not hesitate to take your own initiative. Documented experience with translation work within research and development projects is a merit, and particularly valuable are practical experience with/knowledge of working with lexical resources working with documentation Education in translation, Swedish, linguistics, language science, or language technology (or equivalent) is a merit. Employment The position is an intermittent employment placed at the Department of Swedish, Multilingualism and Language Technology. Start date October 1 or by agreement, with final employment date June 30, 2027.
