At the same time, you will have an important mandate to work with managers, employees, trade unions, user organizations, and external partners to develop the psychiatry of the future – always with the patient's best interest in focus.
About the Operation
The Psychiatric Specialties area encompasses adult psychiatry and forensic psychiatry.
Adult psychiatry offers specialized psychiatric care in both outpatient and inpatient settings in Arvika, Torsby, Säffle/Grums, Hagfors, Kristinehamn, and Karlstad. Inpatient care is centralized in Karlstad and includes a psychiatric emergency clinic and five care wards. The operation has approximately 460 employees.
Forensic psychiatry offers specialized care for Värmland residents who have committed a crime while under the influence of a serious mental disorder and have been placed under forensic psychiatric care. The operation is located in Kristinehamn and Karlstad and has approximately 90 employees. It consists of four care wards with a total of 42 inpatient care places.
About the Role
As Area Manager, you have full line responsibility for the operation, employees, work environment, and finances within Psychiatric Specialties. Currently, it consists of two operations with three operations managers. You report to the Health and Medical Services Director and are part of the health and medical services leadership, with responsibility for both your area and the overall health and medical services in the region.
You lead through others and create the conditions for your managers to succeed. The role involves contributing to a culture characterized by trust, clarity, and engagement, as well as creating stability in an operation that has undergone changes over several years.
An important part is building and strengthening trust in the organization with employees, professions, and trade union partners. This involves creating forums for dialogue and driving development in a way that is anchored in the operation's needs with clear links to how changes contribute to improved patient care.
The role also includes creating conditions for a sustainable management structure, strengthening collaboration internally and externally, and contributing to the development of work methods, accessibility, quality, and patient safety in line with the vision for future psychiatry in Värmland.

We Are Looking for You
with relevant university education and documented management experience from larger and complex operations within health and medical services. You have experience managing managers and a good understanding of governance in a politically governed organization.
You have experience in psychiatric operations and an understanding of its clinical, organizational, and competency supply challenges. You have led change initiatives, worked in trade union collaboration, and driven development and improvement work in complex environments.
As a leader, you are secure, clear, and persistent with a strong ability to build trust and engagement without losing direction. You combine a strategic perspective with presence in the operation and have a holistic view where trust, responsibility, and learning characterize your leadership.
