The unit is responsible for organizing and planning native language instruction and study guidance for multilingual students in the city's schools. As a teacher in the Native Language Unit, you will teach at both municipal and independent elementary and secondary schools throughout the city and have the opportunity to meet students of different ages. In addition to teaching, you will participate every Wednesday in professional development between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM, where you will have the opportunity to develop your pedagogical skills and collaborate with colleagues. Job Responsibilities As a native language teacher in Helsingborg, you typically combine two important assignments: native language teacher and study guidance counselor. In your role as a native language teacher, you are responsible for teaching students according to the curriculum in the native language subject, which means you plan lessons and adapt instruction based on each student's language level, needs, and age. You continuously assess students' development, make assessments, and assign grades according to given grading criteria. Native language instruction at the elementary level includes 60 minutes/lesson per week, while instruction at the secondary level includes 100 minutes/lesson per week. This may mean that working hours in some cases extend until 6:00 PM. All instruction is conducted at schools in Helsingborg City. As a study guidance counselor, you support students in understanding and acquiring content in various subjects in their native language or strongest language. This often occurs parallel to instruction, and your role is to support the student's language and knowledge development in different school subjects. In your role as a native language teacher and study guidance counselor, you will work across all school forms, and in study guidance you will provide support in all subjects based on students' needs. We are seeking you with Japanese as your native language. To work with us, you will need to work on Wednesdays. Digital interviews will take place on 7/8 and onwards. Qualifications We are primarily seeking someone who has Swedish teacher certification with subject competency in native language. Otherwise, you should have other relevant academic education, where pedagogical training is an advantage. You must have very good knowledge of the Swedish language; be able to speak, read, and write fluently, and have completed Swedish 3 at the secondary education level. You are expected to be able to work goal-oriented and have a deep understanding of the national and municipal policy documents that govern school operations. Your ability to plan, implement, and evaluate instruction in accordance with these policy documents is crucial for ensuring equivalence, high quality, and goal achievement. In the role of native language teacher and study guidance counselor, it is also important that you are comfortable using digital tools both in instruction and for administrative purposes. You should be able to plan and conduct lessons with the support of digital tools and use IT systems to document and monitor students' knowledge development. The work requires you to be self-directed and able to organize your work independently, while carefully managing administrative tasks such as documentation, assessment, and grading. The ability to balance the pedagogical and administrative aspects of the work is a central part of the position.
