Native Language Teacher in Finnish – Remote Teaching or In-Person in Umeå (KFC)

Do you speak Finnish and want to teach our students in person in Umeå or via remote teaching? Finnish, Yiddish, Meänkieli, Romani Chib, and Sámi are national minority languages in Sweden. Students who belong to one of the national minorities have the right to instruction in their native language, regardless of whether it is a living language at home or not. This means the student has the right to study the language even if it is a beginner language. Umeå Municipality WANTS MORE when it comes to developing instruction in national minority languages, with a particular focus on preschool and younger children. An extended development project is underway based on finding successful language models for teaching in and using the national minority language for both first and second language learners. We are now looking for you who want to contribute to our students continuing to develop their language, culture, and identity! Employment Type The position is a temporary contract, part-time approximately 40% (may be subject to change), starting August 17, 2026 through February 10, 2027. Possible extension may become relevant. The position can be performed either via remote teaching or in person in Umeå. Your Work Tasks As a native language teacher, you will teach students from preschool class through year 9 together with other native language teachers. Instruction comprises 120 minutes per week and follows the Swedish national curriculum. Your role may include the following tasks: Plan, conduct, and follow up on instruction in the relevant language Assess and award grades in accordance with applicable governing documents Contribute to developing instruction based on our guiding principles: language, culture, and identity Collaborate with colleagues in our Language Hub for National Minority Languages About You We are looking for someone who is creative, self-directed, and flexible, and who thrives in a dynamic work environment. Furthermore, you have good collaborative skills, are attentive, and can communicate and handle different situations in a constructive and solution-focused manner. Requirements Finnish is your native language, or alternatively you have good and documented knowledge in speech and writing Approved Swedish B/Swedish 2 Good digital skills Pedagogical education and/or pedagogical experience Valid criminal record clearance, as required by the law on suitability checks Meritorious Knowledge of additional languages, preferably documented knowledge of Meänkieli Category B driver's license and access to your own car for work in person in Umeå Please attach your CV and a possible cover letter written in Swedish, as well as any teacher certification.
