We are responsible for the operation, maintenance, and development of water and wastewater activities as well as waste management in the municipality – all the way from water treatment plants and purification facilities to pipe networks and recycling centers. Your New Position
As an environmental coordinator, you have a central and supportive function within the Waste and Water Services sector. You work both strategically and operatively with environmental issues, legislation, and permit processes. A large and important part of your daily work involves supporting our various operations (Drinking Water, Wastewater, Pipe Networks, and Recycling and Waste Facilities) with expert knowledge and advice to ensure legal compliance and drive environmental improvements.
You collaborate broadly and cross-functionally within the sector, with other parts of the municipality, and with external supervisory and permit authorities. You actively share your expertise and contribute to raising the overall knowledge level in line with Östersund Municipality's values and goal of a sustainable society.
Typical Work Tasks
Monitor, follow up on, and interpret current environmental legislation and coordinate compliance checks.
Maintain contact and cooperate with supervisory and permit authorities.
Coordinate and convene the sector's cross-functional quality team and work with continuous improvements.
Work with and further develop our management system according to ISO 14001.
Coordinate complex consultation responses.
Support the operations – Drinking Water, Wastewater, Pipe Networks, Recycling, and Waste Facilities – with knowledge and advice within environmental, waste, and water and wastewater areas.
Your Qualifications
Requirements
University or college education in water and environmental technology, water and wastewater technology, or other education/experience that we consider equivalent.
Very strong knowledge of relevant environmental legislation.
Several years of practical experience working with permit and/or notification matters.
Class B driver's license.
Merits
Experience in municipal or other public sector activities and understanding of political decision-making processes.
Experience working with management systems (ISO 14001) and environmental audits.
Experience with security protection and handling of protected information within the water and wastewater sector.
Familiarity with record-keeping and administrative procedures within the public sector.
Other Information
The position is classified in a security class. A security clearance with a background check will therefore be conducted in accordance with the Security Protection Act before a decision on employment.
