Together we create Alingsås! We are now seeking an Environmental Engineer for the Waste Management Department's Reception Unit! The Waste Management Department in Alingsås Municipality is part of the Community Development Administration and is responsible for the municipality's waste operations. The department consists of two units: the collection unit, which is responsible for collecting household waste, and the reception unit, which is responsible for operating recycling centers, recycling stations, and landfills. The department is also responsible for emptying septic tanks from individual properties, though this is carried out by a contractor. The department currently has an Environmental Strategist and an Environmental Engineer who focus on overarching work. This position is located in the reception unit and focuses on operational-level environmental work. WORK TASKS In your role as Environmental Engineer, you are a key person in the unit's improvement and environmental work. You participate in systematic environmental work by monitoring legal requirements, keeping our self-monitoring programs and permits up to date, and conducting incoming material inspections. You are responsible for interpreting analysis reports of water samples and leachate tests. You also support the Environmental Engineer with annual environmental reports and reporting of waste statistics to relevant authorities and industry organizations. The role also includes participation in environmental risk analyses, waste composition analyses, and certifications, as well as updating and implementing procedures and instructions within the unit. Together with the Environmental Engineer, you will inventory and assess old landfills within the municipality. You will also work with the unit manager on further development of our recycling centers, final capping of Bälinge landfill, and participate in environmental inspections and self-monitoring in operations. Some shorter assignments and project work may also be added to the regular tasks. QUALIFICATIONS We are seeking someone who has: • higher education in environmental science, or work experience that we consider equivalent • experience interpreting analysis reports of water samples and in material sampling • strong knowledge of environmental legislation • Class B driving license It is an advantage to have broad experience in the field and to have worked with strategic environmental work or supervision according to the Environmental Code. It is also an advantage to have previous experience in the waste industry. For us, it is important that you have a strong interest in environmental and waste issues. As a person, you are flexible, organized, and adapt easily when conditions change. You plan and organize your work efficiently and can switch between different tasks and perspectives.
