In our department, over 1,000 employees work across five different operations: Facilities, Streets and Parks, Digital Transformation & IT, Meal Services, and Cleaning and Operations Services. We plan, build, and maintain properties, roads, and outdoor environments. We provide transportation services and manage internal operations to ensure the municipality's services run smoothly. For example, we ensure that the IT environment functions and is secure, that our facilities are kept clean, and that the municipality's schools and care facilities can serve healthy meals. Meal Services in Umeå Municipality includes the preparation and serving of lunches in both primary and secondary schools, upper secondary schools, restaurants, and to several units within elderly care. Our mission is to provide excellent service and nutritious, healthy meals to our guests and, together with school and care staff, create an understanding of the importance of food for good health and well-being. Through public meals, meal services contribute to good public health and sustainable development. Dragonskolan is one of Sweden's largest upper secondary schools. More than 2,200 upper secondary students meet here every day in central facilities. The school offers Umeå's largest program selection and provides high-quality education in a wide range of fields. We are now recruiting a Meal Service Assistant! Your tasks As a meal service assistant with us, you will work in the school restaurant with all common work tasks. You provide excellent service and help ensure satisfied guests. In accordance with the municipality's goals, operational plans, meal concepts, and policy documents, you will work with: Preparation and cleanup in the kitchen and restaurant Some food preparation, such as preparing pasta, rice, potatoes, and side dishes for the day's meals Preparing a seasonal salad buffet of high quality Cost awareness and maintaining budget balance About you As a person, you are flexible, responsible, and have a good ability to find solutions in daily work. You thrive in a role where the pace is sometimes high and where work tasks can vary. Furthermore, you have good teamwork skills and contribute to a positive work environment through professional and respectful conduct toward both colleagues and students. You enjoy working in a service-oriented manner and have a genuine interest in creating a pleasant meal environment. You are careful in your work, take your own initiative, and are confident in taking responsibility for your tasks both independently and with others. We place great importance on personal suitability. Requirements Kitchen training, upper secondary education in food handling, or equivalent experience Experience working in large-scale kitchens and public meal services Good Swedish language skills, both spoken and written Valid criminal record clearance certificate, due to the fitness screening requirement Heavy lifting occurs in the workplace.
