The Cultural Administration works to promote a free, rich, and strong cultural life throughout the Västra Götaland region. Together with municipalities, civil society, and other actors, we advance, support, and develop the region's cultural life. We also provide administrative support to the region's cultural policy bodies: the Cultural Committee and the Board for Cultural Development. Read more at vgregion.se/kulturförvaltningen. To carry out our mission in art, culture, nature, and cultural heritage, the core operations are divided into two departments: Art and Culture, and Nature and Cultural Heritage, each subdivided into multiple units. The Department of Nature and Cultural Heritage operates six museums and visitor attractions. To coordinate cross-functional issues across the entire administration, we work in a matrix structure, which includes our work with municipalities, children and youth, collections management, and Agenda 2030. Description Studio Västsvensk Konservering (SVK) is Sweden's largest conservation studio with currently 19 permanent conservators. We work on a project basis, primarily within the Västra Götaland region, with objects, collections, buildings, and environments made of all types of materials. Our clients include the Swedish Church, municipalities, state authorities, and museums, as well as private individuals, associations, and companies that own and manage art, cultural heritage objects, buildings, and environments. Our facilities span approximately 2000 m² and include large studios, a photo studio, and laboratory spaces. Read more at www.vgregion.se/svk SVK is currently part of the Cultural Administration of Västra Götaland Region. The Cultural Administration is a knowledge organization serving the region's municipalities, civil society, cultural actors, and others working in these fields. We also operate Gothenburg's Natural History Museum, Vitlycke Museum, Vänerborg Museum, Lödöse Museum, the Museum of Medical History in Gothenburg, and the visitor attractions Forsvik Mill and Handicraft and Building Conservation. We are the country's broadest regional culture, nature, and cultural heritage administration, bringing together expertise across various art forms, nature and cultural heritage, library and museum operations. We employ approximately 250 staff members at various locations throughout the region. We were established on January 1, 2020, through a merger of the former administrations Kultur i Väst and Västarvet. Read more about us at www.vgr.se/kulturutveckling. Duties Due to increased project demands, we now need an additional staff member in our paintings conservation department. The work primarily involves conservation of paintings on canvas and polychrome sculpture, but also encompasses a broad range of conservation activities such as inventories and the development of maintenance and care plans. This involves substantial studio work, but also field work with overnight stays. We offer a fixed-term contract starting October 1 or by agreement. Qualifications We are seeking someone with conservation training, at least a BSc/BA degree, and a minimum of one year of experience in professional paintings conservation. You will primarily work in the paintings conservation studio, but may also contribute to projects outside your specialty. Operations at SVK are complex and demand high flexibility and adaptability. We place great emphasis on personal qualities and the ability to collaborate and build relationships. Your work includes written documentation and customer communication, so you must be able to express yourself well in a Scandinavian language or English, both verbally and in writing. You must be capable of handling physical challenges such as working at heights and lifting heavy items. A driver's license (category B) is required. If you enjoy working at a fast pace with multiple parallel projects, you'll thrive with us! Terms Västra Götaland Region prefers that you submit your application through the recruitment system.
