What we offer you Working at the Environmental Unit in Upplands Väsby means joining a workplace that dares to take action and wants to make a difference. For us, it's important to have fun at work while also caring about our employees' ability to balance work and leisure. The team that handles food control is a group of experienced inspectors with broad backgrounds. The work is characterized by collaboration and shared vision—we support each other with tricky cases and help during busy periods. You'll have the opportunity to work with everything from our large food industries to small home-based food operations. We think the variety makes the work fun! About us The Environmental Unit is responsible for food control within Upplands Väsby Municipality. Our facilities include both large food industries and small food operations in home settings. The unit is led by an environmental manager and currently consists of two working groups: the Environmental Code group and the Food/Alcohol and Tobacco group. The groups are led in daily operations by their respective team leaders who manage the daily workflow. The groups have regular meetings where current issues and inspection projects are discussed. The unit is undergoing changes and will partly move to a new municipal building during 2027, as well as review and develop our inspection work with increased focus on collaboration. We are a working group that enjoys working together and where we solve challenges as a team. About the position We are now looking for additional support for the food group as one of our most experienced colleagues is retiring. As a food safety inspector with us, you will: Conduct planned inspections of food facilities based on food legislation. Write reports, follow up, and plan inspections. Investigate complaints and suspected food poisoning cases. Provide advice and information to food businesses and the public. As an inspector at the Environmental Unit, you have an important role where you conduct inspections both independently and in collaboration with others. Together with engaged and knowledgeable colleagues, you become a valuable team member in our unit, characterized by good atmosphere and forward-thinking. Together with others, you actively participate in planning, implementing, and following up on various inspection initiatives. Additionally, incoming matters are handled on an ongoing basis. You work toward inspections characterized by high service and quality, as well as good conduct, without compromising your role as a public authority—which sometimes means making tough decisions in complex cases. We apply individual salary setting. Are you the person we're looking for? We are looking for someone who has: Higher education or equivalent work experience in relevant areas such as nutrition, food science, food technology, or as an inspector within food or environmental and health protection. Good knowledge of Swedish, as much of the work involves writing decisions and other types of legal documents. Comfort with handling phone and email, as a large part of the work involves contact with our food businesses in the municipality. A Class B driver's license, as some of our business travels are conducted by car. It is a merit if you have: Several years of work experience in food control, work within the food industry, or experience working in restaurants. Taken one or more courses in law (such as basic law, administrative law, food control, or environmental law), as many work tasks involve interpreting and explaining legislation. Worked in a case management system such as Castor or Ecos. Spoken additional languages besides Swedish and English. As a person, you are stable in that you can meet our operations by explaining your decisions in a calm and mature manner. Furthermore, you are secure and relationship-building, which for us means that you inspire confidence and through dialogue can motivate others. We also believe that you need to be curious to fit this role, by actively seeking knowledge within your areas of expertise. We warmly welcome your application! We only accept applications through our recruitment system. Background checks may occur during the recruitment process.
