Department of Clinical Sciences Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) University Animal Hospital is seeking a veterinarian with a specialization in orthopedics and an interest in teaching and research for our outpatient clinic at the equine department. About the job You will primarily work at the department's outpatient unit conducting orthopedic examinations. As a veterinarian at UDS, you will also mentor veterinary and animal health technician students. There are opportunities to collaborate with researchers in our orthopedic team as part of clinical research, as well as opportunities for specialized training in orthopedics. If you are interested in working in other departments within UDS or the institution, this can be discussed and may become possible. All employees at the equine department work on roster duty agreements, which means work can be scheduled at any time of day or night according to the schedule. Your background You are a licensed veterinarian with authorization to work in Sweden and have substantial interest and experience in equine orthopedics. It is meritorious to have specialist competence in equine diseases, ISELP certification, formal training in orthopedics and rehabilitation through a completed residency program in ECVSMR, a degree as Diplomate in European College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (ECVSMR), or equivalent. You are accustomed to meeting animal owners in various situations. You have good communication and interpersonal skills, recognize the importance of maintaining good client relationships, and interact with animal owners in a professional manner. As a person, you are organized, can handle periods of high workload, and thrive in a dynamic environment where much is happening. You value good collaboration with colleagues, are a team player, and actively contribute to positive relationships throughout the faculty. You are interested in working in an environment where clinical practice meets teaching and research, and in creating a good learning environment for students. At the same time, you can view operations from a commercial perspective and are results-focused. We will place great importance on your personal qualities. About us At SLU University Animal Hospital (UDS), education, research, and advanced veterinary care go hand in hand. We train tomorrow's veterinarians and animal health technicians and provide first-class care to companion animals, competition animals, and production animals. We also disseminate knowledge to the general public. By combining established knowledge with the latest research results, we develop the future of veterinary care. Under one roof, qualified veterinary care is offered for horses, dogs, cats, and other small animals. In addition to modern, purpose-built facilities, we have access to advanced diagnostic imaging and a veterinary medical specialist laboratory. UDS operations also include an ambulatory clinic that visits stalls and farms to examine and treat horses and farm animals. The equine department receives approximately 5,000 horses annually. We currently have about 50 employees and are part of the Department of Clinical Sciences, which has approximately 340 employees. The department currently has three units: Outpatient clinic with orthopedic and medical cases, farrier services, and specialist clinics in respiratory, dental, dermatology, and ophthalmology. A care unit with both surgical and medical patients. And an operating unit with both scheduled and emergency surgeries. The equine department receives patients 24 hours a day, year-round.
