As a music teacher, you are responsible for planning, implementing, and following up on instruction for students in grades 1-6 according to the current curriculum. You document and assess students' learning progress and assign grades in grade 6. During the remaining part of your time, you work in the after-school program. There you plan, implement, and follow up on instruction and activities together with colleagues based on students' needs, interests, and experiences. The role includes: • Planning and delivering varied and accessible music instruction • Monitoring and documenting students' learning progress • Planning and leading activities in the after-school program • Building safe and positive relationships with students • Collaborating with teachers and other staff regarding students' entire school day • Actively contributing to the school's and after-school program's joint development work Challenges and Opportunities An important part of the role is adapting music instruction to students' different ages, needs, and circumstances. The divided position requires that you can plan and structure your work as well as transition between the role of music teacher and work in the after-school program. At the same time, you will have the opportunity to follow students in multiple parts of their school day and build safe and long-term relationships. You will help shape music instruction and contribute to how the after-school program's activities are planned and implemented. Your musical and creative interests can also be an asset in the after-school program's activities.
