Description
Utbyskolan is a grades 1–9 resource school with 33 students that exclusively accepts students requiring comprehensive and lasting special support. Students in the resource school follow the same curriculum and schedule as other elementary school students. We are committed to ensuring that all students are everyone's students and actively work to create a sense of safety and desire to learn for all.
At our resource school, we work with smaller student groups and more staff, providing greater opportunities to make individual adaptations in teaching and the learning environment. We create inclusive instruction and a customized school environment for the students who need it most. Since Utbyskolan lacks a sports hall, students travel in our leased vehicles to nearby facilities with physical education teachers and after-school leaders. Utbyskolan is located in a nature-rich setting in Utby. "The Forest in School" is part of our pedagogy, where students receive outdoor instruction related to the right of public access to nature, environment, and practical learning.
At Utbyskolan, we focus on students' language development throughout the day and in all learning environments. We aim to contribute to a democratic community where all students are included—an environment where students have great opportunities to develop and learn, and where differences are seen as an asset. We also place great emphasis on developing instruction and therefore prioritize professional development, collaborative learning, and joint planning for a large portion of our shared time.
Job Responsibilities
Our school needs you—an after-school teacher who wants to work collaboratively with colleagues to make a difference for students at our resource school.
Your primary role is to plan and deliver instruction in the after-school program together with other teachers and after-school leaders, as well as during the school day to teach art for grades 4–9 in 5 classes.
At school, we work together across and within professional roles. After-school teachers, teachers, after-school leaders, and teaching assistants should create truly high-quality education. We are looking for someone who wants to work in a team and shares our school's belief that we are better together than individually.
We seek someone with high expectations and a belief that all students can succeed based on their abilities. You build strong relationships with both students and guardians, founded on trust and respect. Based on student outcomes, research, and proven experience, you monitor and evaluate the quality of the after-school program.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who is trained and certified as a teacher with credentials to teach in an after-school program with an art specialization. You have previous experience working with children and youth with disabilities or functional variations.
As a person, it is important that you:
are skilled at creating inclusive learning environments, building trusting relationships with students, and maintaining good contact with families.
are flexible and able to adapt your approach and communication with students based on their functional variations, as well as capable of helping students interpret different situations and social contexts.
gain energy from contributing to others' learning and create conditions for learning to occur.
are able to work with others to accomplish tasks and reach goals. By being interested and fostering understanding of others, you promote a respectful work environment.
take initiative and responsibility for moving work forward, whether working independently or with others.
Do you recognize yourself in the description above?
We look forward to receiving your application!
The position is filled subject to the condition that it is not claimed for internal reasons.
