Our Operations Akademiska Laboratory is an accredited facility for qualified medical diagnostics, research, development, and education. The operations are divided into five sections within nine laboratory medicine knowledge areas: transfusion medicine, immunology, chemistry, pharmacology, bacteriology, virology, pathology and cytology, and genetics. We have approximately 700 employees at Akademiska Hospital and Lasarettet in Enköping. The MKG Section is a center of excellence for highly specialized care related to genetic disorders in the Central Sweden Healthcare Region (https://www.sjukvårdsregionmellan.se/). The operations are expanding and have approximately 100 employees. Clinical genetics is a rapidly developing specialty with strong connections to research at the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University, Genomic Medicine Sweden, and the Clinical Genomics platform at SciLifeLab. MKG is being developed to bring together expertise, resources, and technology in molecular diagnostics and precision medicine. Work within MKG is primarily focused on massive parallel sequencing and is conducted in close collaboration with Clinical Genomics Uppsala at Uppsala University. There are three patient clinics within MKG: General and Pediatric Genetics Clinic and Oncogenetics Clinic. The operations work closely with other laboratory medicine specialties within Akademiska Laboratory and are part of the Precision Medicine Center in Uppsala, PMCU. MKG is now seeking a Medical Director who wants to lead and further develop an operation at the forefront of the field. Your Assignment We offer an interesting and developmental leadership position within a clinic and research-intensive area. Here you will have great opportunities to take initiative and develop operations together with the Deputy Operations Manager, other leaders, and dedicated employees. As Medical Director, you have financial and personnel responsibility for the physician group, approximately 25 people, and responsibility for contributing to the development of operations. On matters concerning clinic development and patient safety, you will work closely with the Department Head of the patient clinic. Close collaboration with the Deputy Operations Manager, well-functioning staffing, and active improvement work within clinic and research are priority areas. Together with the Deputy Operations Manager and other leaders, you are responsible for leading operations toward established goals and visions. As Medical Director, you report to the Deputy Operations Manager for MKG. You are part of the section's leadership team and represent, on behalf of the Deputy Operations Manager or Operations Manager, the section in Akademiska Laboratory's leadership team when relevant matters and strategies are discussed. There is some opportunity to combine the position with research time. We are Looking for You Who • have good communication and collaboration skills and can, in dialogue with employees, formulate goals and visions, clarify the purpose of operations, contribute to a good work environment, and create engagement and results. • • have experience running operations according to an established operational plan and financial framework and, if necessary, make required prioritizations. • • are present, responsive, clear, respectful, and engaged in your leadership and interactions. • • have the ability to see the big picture and understand the university hospital's special mission and conditions, for example in research, education, development, and innovation. Your Qualifications We are looking for someone with experience working as a leader with personnel, financial, and operational responsibility and experience leading operations and groups through change. You have relevant higher education, for example as a physician, nurse, or equivalent natural science education, and professional experience from patient clinics and laboratory medicine. It is meritorious if you are a board-certified specialist physician in a relevant field and have more than five years of experience working in clinical operations. Previous leadership experience is a requirement, and experience working in a politically governed organization is meritorious. We place great emphasis on personal qualities and experiences, especially your ability to lead and develop operations within MKG. Experience in research and development is meritorious.
