Department of Surgery, Höglandssjukhuset Eksjö The Department of Surgery in Region Jönköping County is seeking a Medical Director who wants to lead the physician group in Eksjö at Höglandssjukhuset and contribute to the continued development of surgical services in the region from both a local and regional perspective. As Medical Director in Eksjö, you will report directly to the Department Head for the Department of Surgery and will be one of three Medical Directors—one for each location: Jönköping, Eksjö, and Värnamo. The Medical Directors are part of the department's management team and participate in local leadership at their respective locations. The Medical Director Role In close collaboration with the Assistant Department Head in Eksjö, you will lead local operations. Together with the Department Head and the department's management team, you will ensure that local development takes on a regional perspective and that all three locations are guided in the same direction. The position combines clinical work and leadership, with approximately half your time dedicated to management and half to clinical practice, though other arrangements can be discussed. In your role, you will have medical leadership responsibility and shared responsibility for incident management within the department in Eksjö. You will initiate and lead improvement projects that contribute to operational development and enhance patient care. As department head, you will currently supervise 22 physicians at various levels, fostering and developing their competence and potential. In your Medical Director role, you also have workplace environment responsibility, ensuring a safe and positive work environment for physicians through engaged leadership. You will share budget responsibility with the management team and have the ability to drive a cost- and resource-efficient operation. Your Future Workplace The Department of Surgery in Region Jönköping County is a regional clinic with operations at three locations: Höglandssjukhuset in Eksjö, Länssjukhuset Ryhov in Jönköping, and Värnamo Sjukhus. The clinic is responsible for 24-hour acute surgical care at all three hospitals. In Eksjö, elective operations focus on upper and lower gastrointestinal surgery and endocrine surgery. Vascular and thoracic surgery are centralized for the entire region in Jönköping. The operating unit at Höglandssjukhuset in Eksjö is newly built and features state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. Your Profile • Licensed physician with a specialty in surgery • Previous leadership experience with personnel responsibility and operational development is advantageous • Driver's license (B-category) As a person, you are solution-oriented and interested in driving operational development so that patient care continuously improves and delivers excellent results. We work closely within the department and with other operational areas, so strong communication skills are essential. Your leadership is characterized by openness and dialogue, creating favorable conditions for a positive work environment. You demonstrate good judgment, are clear and decisive.
