Responsibilities
As a Laboratory Coordinator, you play a central role in developing, coordinating, and supporting the department's laboratory operations. You contribute to ensuring that laboratory environments are safe, efficient, and functional for researchers while meeting applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, and university regulations.
The role involves close collaboration with researchers, doctoral students, students, and technical and administrative staff. You are the department's expert support in laboratory safety, chemical handling, and work environment issues and have a clear mandate, with support from the department's leadership, to drive development and follow-up within these areas.
Responsibilities include, among other things:
coordination and development of the department's shared laboratory resources and laboratory environments
responsibility for chemical inventory and chemical handling, including administration in the KLARA system
orders, procurement, supplier contacts, and follow-up of service agreements
coordination of shared laboratory spaces and equipment
coordination and support regarding risk assessments, safety rounds, incident reporting, and other work environment-related processes
ensuring that laboratory operations are conducted in accordance with applicable legislation, regulations, and local guidelines
introduction of new employees, students, and guests regarding laboratory safety, chemical handling, and local procedures
advice and support to the operation on matters relating to laboratory safety, work environment, and regulatory compliance
advice and support to the operation regarding ethical permits for animal testing.
Qualifications
academic degree in a relevant natural science field (e.g., biology, chemistry, or biomedical analysis) or equivalent competence
several years of experience working in a laboratory environment, preferably in an academic setting
good knowledge of legislation and procedures relating to laboratory safety, chemical handling, and work environment
good knowledge of academic research environments
good administrative and organizational ability
good digital competence and experience with relevant administrative systems (experience with KLARA is a merit)
very good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish and English.
Meritorious
experience in coordinating roles within academic activities
doctoral degree in a research field relevant to the Department of Zoology
experience in systematic work environment management, risk assessments, and safety rounds
experience in introduction, training, or mentoring of staff and students
experience in procurement, supplier contacts, and contract follow-up.
To succeed in this role, you are structured, thorough, and solution-oriented. You have a good ability to translate complex regulations into practical and well-functioning working methods in daily operations.
The work requires great independence and good judgment. Since the role involves interaction with many different professional groups, excellent collaboration skills and a pedagogical approach are required. You have high integrity and are comfortable independently driving and following up on matters relating to safety and regulatory compliance. You have the ability to be clear and constructive even in situations where regulations or safety requirements need to be upheld.
About the Position
The position is a permanent full-time role with a six-month probationary period. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting. Start date by agreement.
