Your Work Tasks As a school counselor at Anders Ljungstedts Gymnasium, you work closely with students in the introductory programs. You are part of the principal's student welfare team together with, among others, study and career counselors, school nurse, student welfare coordinator, coordinator, full-time mentors, internship coordinator, and psychologist. Together, you create a safe and accessible learning environment where work is based on applicable laws and local procedures, action plans, and established goals. You see the student holistically and work to remove obstacles to learning as well as contribute to students' development and health through your psychosocial competence. The assignment includes conducting conversations, such as support, motivation, and crisis conversations as well as investigative and advisory conversations with individual students and their families related to their school situation. In addition to direct student work, you cooperate with external authorities and organizations. You also provide support to school staff by contributing knowledge about risk and protective factors for students' health, social situation, learning, and development. In collaboration with school leadership and teachers, you also actively contribute to the school's continued development work. As a school counselor, you participate in professional networks held by the coordinating counselor. You are offered continuing education in the form of supervision and participation in student welfare conferences. Your Workplace Anders Ljungstedts Gymnasium (ALG) is a large school with over 1,100 students and 200 employees. Organizationally, the school consists of five principal areas with close collaboration on matters where it creates synergistic effects in operations. ALG has great diversity of students and programs where the work environment is characterized by collaboration throughout the school. The school overlooks historic grounds where armies clashed in the Battle of Stångebro, and is next to Saab Arena. It is easy to get to school as it is only a short walk from Linköping's travel center. Getting here by city bus, bike, or car also works well, and there is plenty of parking. The Introductory Programs are for students who are not eligible for upper secondary school or need special support. They study primary school subjects, and the programs are adapted to each student's conditions and needs. About You We are looking for someone with a behavioral science degree at the university level (180 credits) or other education the employer deems equivalent. It is meritorious to have a degree in social work or to have studied social law or another equivalent course. You have experience with social work with children and youth, and knowledge of governing documents, legislation, and guidelines for social work in school environments/student welfare work in schools/the profession of school counselor. It is positive if you have experience working as a school counselor. We would like to see experience working in an environment where differences are valued and an understanding of how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. Since you will be working with communication and documentation, it is important that you have good knowledge of Swedish in speech and writing. A driver's license is meritorious. To succeed in the role of school counselor, you need the ability to understand someone else's perspective or situation without taking on their emotions. You need to be secure, stable, and have self-awareness, as well as be able to see relationships in their proper perspective. You need to see a clear distinction between the personal and the professional and conduct yourself in a way that is adapted to the situation. You take responsibility for your task and adapt to changed circumstances. Since the role of school counselor involves many contact points with colleagues and students, you need to be outgoing, have good collaboration skills, and be socially active and clear in professional contexts.
