About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now seeking additional staff members. The prison currently holds approximately 145 inmates and employs 120 staff members. We are undergoing significant capacity expansion with many changes taking place in the operations area, including renovation and new construction. Within a few years, the new Vä prison is expected to accommodate approximately 600 inmates with 500 employees. Correctional officers are the largest occupational group, but we also employ healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production managers, and others. In this recruitment, we are seeking correctional officers for both prisons. Job Description Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for others and contribute to a better society. Working in a prison is varied: care, supervision, search, and security work are combined with release planning and counseling and motivational work. You will begin your employment at the workplace where you receive a three-week introduction. After approximately 3-6 months of service, you will be offered a place in the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's mandatory basic training program, which lasts 8 weeks. You will receive a salary during your entire training period. During your probationary period, continuous assessments will be conducted regarding your suitability for permanent employment. Qualifications Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be confident, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you operate the facility, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. You must be able to act physically when necessary. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect you and others. We are seeking candidates who have: Complete secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service considers relevant Work experience, including seasonal work, temporary employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment Good Swedish language skills in both speech and writing Good computer skills B-class driver's license It is also advantageous to have: Work experience from the correctional system, security work, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare and care work Knowledge in relevant areas such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management Relevant language skills Other Information The Swedish Prison and Probation Service has chosen to remove the personal letter and replaced it with selection questions relevant to the position.
