Job Description As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with clients. Working in a detention center means focusing on care and security, and it is a job with clear procedures. Some people are held in detention for long periods and only meet their lawyer and those who work at the detention center. This places special demands on you as a correctional officer. Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's core values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and belief in people's capacity for development. You will begin your employment at the workplace where you will receive a three-week introduction. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's basic training, which is mandatory and covers 8 weeks. You will receive salary during the entire training period. During your probation period, ongoing assessments will be conducted regarding your eligibility for permanent employment. Qualifications Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be confident, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you drive the operations, so you need to have good teamwork skills and clear communication. You should be able to act physically when required. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect you and others. Furthermore, through your approach, you are expected to contribute to ensuring that everyone is treated equally. We place great emphasis on personal suitability. We are looking for you who have: Completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant Work experience, including seasonal work, temporary employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment Good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written Good computer skills It is also a merit to have: Work experience from corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and care work Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management Relevant language skills Other Information The Swedish Prison and Probation Service has chosen to remove the personal letter and replaced it with selection questions relevant to the position.
