About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more staff members. Our most important goal is to reduce reoffending – to break the cycle of crime. When we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation services, remand facilities, and inmate transportation. Job Description As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with clients. You can choose to work in a remand facility, prison, or transportation unit. Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's core values of a humane worldview, respect for the individual, and belief in human development. You will begin your employment at the workplace where you will receive a three-week introduction. After a probation period, you will be offered a place in the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's mandatory basic training program, which lasts 8 weeks. You will receive salary throughout the entire training period. During probation, continuous assessments will be conducted to determine your suitability for permanent employment. Qualifications Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be confident, stable, have good self-awareness, good judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you drive the operations, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. You must be able to act physically when required. For us, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's core values of a humane worldview, respect for the individual, and belief in people's willingness and ability to develop. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect you and others. Furthermore, you are expected to contribute through your approach to ensuring that everyone is treated equitably. We place great emphasis on personal suitability. We are looking for you who have: - Completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service considers relevant - Work experience, including seasonal work, temporary employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment - Good knowledge of Swedish in both speech and writing - Good computer skills It is also advantageous to have: - Work experience from the correctional service, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and care services - Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management - Relevant language skills Other Information The Swedish Prison and Probation Service has chosen to remove the personal letter and replaced it with selection questions relevant to the position.
