About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now seeking more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the cycle of crime. If we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation services, remand centers, and prisoner transports. Norrtälje Prison is a closed facility in the highest security class with approximately 250 inmates. The operations are run, led, and developed by around 230 employees and 15 managers. The largest professional group is correctional officers, but we also employ healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production managers, and many other roles. The inmates participate in education, various treatment programs, or work in the prison's woodworking industry and mechanical workshop. The prison is located in a nature-rich area with proximity to green spaces, which contributes to a pleasant and sustainable work environment. Employees have access to a gym and sauna, as well as a highly appreciated staff dining room that creates excellent conditions for community and recovery. The prison has good transportation links and is easily accessible by public transport. If you drive, there is free parking available in our employee parking area. Duties As a correctional officer, you are part of a team where you have daily contact with clients. The work varies: care, supervision, inspection, and security work are combined with release planning and counseling/motivational work. Clear routines are a natural part of your daily work. You are responsible for opening and locking cell doors and escorting clients to work and education. The role also includes inspections and supervision of the exercise yard and gymnasium. You have daily contact with inmates, where your approach contributes to creating a sense of security and understanding their wellbeing. You are also an important part of the work with preparing inmates for release and reintegration into society. Qualifications Your personal qualities are important to us. As a correctional officer, you need to be composed, stable, and have good self-awareness. Since you and your colleagues run the operations together, you need good teamwork skills and the ability to communicate clearly. In your professional practice, good judgment and integrity are required. The position requires that you have good physical ability to handle situations that may arise at work and to perform the physical elements included in the introductory training. We are looking for someone who has: • Completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience. • Work experience, including seasonal work, temporary employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment. • Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written. • Good computer skills. It is an advantage if you have: • Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, or conflict management. • Work experience from correctional services, security work, social care, psychiatry, healthcare and care work, or service work in retail, hotels, or restaurants.
