About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now seeking more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the cycle of crime. When we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation services, remand facilities, and client transportation. The Gävle operational area includes the closed prison Gävle, the open prison Gruvberget, and the remand facility Bomhus. Our operations run 24/7, and the largest occupational group is correctional officers, with over a dozen other positions in support to ensure our mission. At prisons Gävle and Gruvberget, inmates are engaged in education, structured activities, treatment programs, self-management, or in prison industries, which mainly consist of carpentry production. To prison Gävle and remand facility Bomhus you can easily travel by public transport; to prison Gruvberget you need access to a car. Staff parking is available. Gruvberget is an open prison in the lowest security classification. The facility has capacity for 60 clients and has approximately 40 employees. We are now seeking correctional officers for Gruvberget Prison. Job Description As a correctional officer, you are present where things happen and create stability in a complex daily environment where you make a difference for other people and society at large. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and belief in human development. As a correctional officer, you have daily contact with clients and work closely with both colleagues and other professionals. Your tasks are varied and include care, supervision, inspection, and security work, as well as counseling/motivational work and planning related to the client's sentence. You will begin your employment at the workplace with a three-week orientation. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's mandatory eight-week basic training. You will receive salary during the entire training period. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments will be conducted that form the basis for the possibility of a permanent position. Gruvberget Prison is located in a nature-near environment with limited public transportation options. There are no bus connections to the workplace, which means you need to have a class B driving license and access to a car to get to and from work. For employees with long commutes, there is also some possibility of overnight accommodation at the workplace by agreement. Qualifications Your personal qualities are important to us. As a correctional officer, you need to be confident, stable, and have good self-awareness. You work together with your colleagues to run the facility and therefore need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. In your professional practice, good judgment and integrity are required. You have the physical ability to act when the situation requires it. We are looking for someone who has: Complete upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service considers relevant Work experience, also in the form of seasonal work, temporary employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing Good computer skills Class B driving license It is also advantageous to have: Work experience from educational work, security work, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare and social services.
