About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now seeking more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the cycle of crime. If we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation services, detention centers, and inmate transport. The Luleå Operations Area is the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's northernmost region and includes the facilities in Luleå and Haparanda as well as Luleå Detention Center. The largest occupational group is correctional officers, but we also have healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production managers, and others. At the facilities, inmates are engaged in education, various treatment programs, or in the facilities' furniture production. To get to the Luleå facility or detention center, you can easily use public transportation; if you drive, you can park in our staff parking lot. The Haparanda facility is a five-minute walk from Haparanda station. Job Duties As a correctional officer, you work in a team where you have daily contact with clients. The duties at a facility/detention center are varied: care work, supervision, searches, and security work are combined with release planning and counseling/motivational work. Work at a detention center is often routine-based and focused on care and security tasks. Clients can be held for long periods without contact except with their lawyer and detention center staff, which places special demands on you as a correctional officer. Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's core values of a humane view of human beings, respect for the individual, and belief in human development. You will begin your employment at the workplace where you will receive a three-week introduction. After an initial period of service, you will be offered a place in the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's basic training program, which is mandatory and covers 8 weeks. You will be paid during the entire training period, and it takes place at another location. During your probationary period, ongoing assessments will be conducted regarding your suitability for permanent employment. Qualifications Your personal qualities are very important to us. As a correctional officer, you need to be confident, stable, and have good self-awareness. Since you and your colleagues drive the operations together, you need to have good collaboration skills and the ability to be clear in your communication. Your professional practice requires good judgment and integrity. We are each other's work environment, and therefore you must have very good physical condition that enables you to act physically when the situation requires. We place great emphasis on personal suitability. We are looking for someone who has: • Work experience, including seasonal work, temporary employment, or self-employment.
