In 2027, Sweden's University of Agricultural Sciences celebrates 50 years. The anniversary year will highlight the university's significance to society through our research, education, and environmental analysis. At the same time, the celebration should increase awareness of SLU and strengthen relationships with our target audiences.
We are now seeking a communications officer who will have overall responsibility for anniversary communications, both internally and externally. The role involves both strategic and operational work in close collaboration with the anniversary project's project manager, the communications department, and the broader operations.
About the Job
As communications officer for SLU's 50th Anniversary, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing communications initiatives related to the anniversary year. You will translate the project's goals into engaging communications and ensure a cohesive expression across all channels and activities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing strategic communications support to the anniversary project's leadership
- Developing, implementing, and following up on communications plans and activities
- Developing messages, concepts, and content for different target audiences
- Planning, coordinating, and producing content for web, social media, newsletters, press, film, and print materials
- Identifying and highlighting stories that showcase SLU's history, present, and future
- Coordinating communications initiatives with operational representatives and external partners
- Participating in the planning and implementation of anniversary events and other activities
- Monitoring, analyzing, and evaluating the results of communications efforts
The position involves many points of contact and close collaboration with colleagues throughout the university.
Your Background
We are looking for someone with relevant university or college education in communications, journalism, marketing, or equivalent, or experience that the employer considers equivalent.
You have:
- At least five years of experience in qualified communications work
- Documented experience planning and implementing communications initiatives from idea to result
- Excellent ability to write and adapt messages for different target audiences and channels
- Experience driving communications work in project form
- Good experience collaborating with many different stakeholders
It is advantageous if you:
- Have been responsible for communications in larger projects, anniversaries, or organization-wide initiatives
- Have experience with event or project communications
- Have worked as a communications officer at a government agency, university, or other public organization
SLU is a parallel-language university. You therefore need to be able to express yourself fluently and correctly in Swedish in speech and writing, and have excellent ability to communicate in English.
To succeed in this role, you are organized, self-directed, and unpretentious. You have a strong ability to bring order to complex situations, build relationships, and drive work forward even when conditions change. You combine a strategic perspective with a strong focus on implementation and have high delivery capability.

About Us
The Communications Department at SLU has strategic and overall responsibility for the organization's internal and external communications. The department is responsible for university-wide communications and marketing of SLU's education, research, environmental analysis, and veterinary medicine. We manage the university's websites and other communications infrastructure, as well as visual communications and the SLU brand. We handle media contacts and provide the organization with support on communications-related matters.
