Head of Communications

Do you want to lead communications work at a leading university? Stockholm University is seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Communications who wants to contribute to strengthening the university's position as an internationally leading institution for research and education. The Communications Department is part of the university's central operational support and is responsible for the university's overall communications. The department leads and develops the collective communications work, serves as an expert function on communications matters, and provides support to the university's managers and employees. As Head of Communications, you will have a key role in developing and coordinating communications in a large, knowledge-intensive, and complex organization. You are responsible for strengthening the university's research communications, coordinating communications initiatives linked to student recruitment, and further developing internal communications to create engagement, participation, and clarity in the organization. You will lead a department of approximately 35 employees organized in two sections: Press and Editorial, Advisory and Communications Support. More information about us can be found here: Communications Department Duties As Head of Communications, you lead, develop, and follow up on the university's overall communications activities in close collaboration with the university's leadership, academic domains, departments, and other operations. You are responsible for: Leading and further developing the university's communications strategic work. Ensuring communications support that meets operational needs. Driving development within research communications, student recruitment, and internal communications. Planning, implementing, managing, and following up on the department's activities, budget, and personnel. Preparing, coordinating, and investigating matters within the department's areas of responsibility. You are expected to develop and maintain a broad network of contacts within the university and actively collaborate with other institutions and stakeholders. You are keen to explore the university's core activities—research and education—with curiosity. You report directly to the University Director and are part of the university administration's management group. Qualifications We are seeking someone who has: A relevant academic degree or other completed education/experience that the employer deems equivalent. Several years of experience in qualified leadership in a large and complex organization. Extensive experience with strategic and operational communications work. Documented experience of working strategically and operationally with crisis management. Documented experience with operational development and change management. Experience leading through other managers and leading qualified specialist functions. Very strong ability to express yourself in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing. It is meritorious if you have experience from the higher education sector and an understanding of its governance, mission, and conditions.
