About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now seeking more employees. The Legal Department is a national department at the Swedish Prison and Probation Service headquarters. The department is responsible for, among other things, directing and driving the authority's work on legal matters, providing legal support to all levels of the authority, submitting statements to various oversight bodies, making initial and review decisions in client matters, representing the Swedish Prison and Probation Service in legal proceedings, and handling compensation and damages cases that do not fall under other departments. The department is also responsible for the authority's advisory national legal preparedness. The Client Legal Unit fulfills the Legal Department's responsibilities in the client legal area. The unit's sections for general client legal matters are now seeking a legal counsel with placement at the regional office in Gothenburg. The Legal Department applies the opportunity to enter into remote work agreements, which means that up to 60% of work can be conducted from home. Job Description As a prison and probation legal counsel, one of your main tasks will be to handle and make decisions in review cases where initial decisions have been made by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's local facilities, including prisons and remand centers. You will also participate in work to coordinate and develop practices in prison and probation legal matters and be responsible for daily legal advice to local and regional levels. You represent the Swedish Prison and Probation Service in court proceedings concerning client decisions. You may also handle cases regarding compensation for damages. Your work also includes educating other employees within the authority, developing proposals for statements in oversight matters, participating in legal follow-up of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's operations, and responding to internal referrals and participating in various operational development projects. On-call duty outside regular office hours may also be relevant. Qualifications We are looking for someone who is confident, stable, and has self-awareness. You work well with others but can structure your own work approach to drive processes forward. In your work, you make correct assessments and prioritizations by weighing complex information and solving problems. We are looking for someone who has: - A law degree or university law degree - Several years of experience in legal work - Experience in case handling and making administrative decisions, preferably in some part of the justice system - Ability to express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish It is also advantageous to have: - Experience making administrative decisions that are intrusive to individuals - Experience in legal advice and training - Experience working with legal matters in the Swedish Prison and Probation Service - Notary certification - Strong specialist knowledge in general and special administrative law, such as prison and probation legislation, or in criminal and procedural law Other Information The Swedish Prison and Probation Service has decided to remove the personal letter and replace it with selection questions that are relevant to the position.
