Candidates who have not previously served in institutions of the Ministry of Interior or the Prison Service will be required to complete professional development training through a 3-month course in Riga at the State Police College in November 2026!
Main duties of the position:
· Upon establishing grounds and basis for initiating criminal proceedings, promptly initiate criminal proceedings to detect criminal offenses committed in the territory served by the State Police regional office district and conduct necessary pre-trial investigation independently or as part of an investigation team until the person liable to criminal responsibility is identified and sufficient evidence is obtained to initiate criminal prosecution;
· Independently or as a member of an investigation team investigate criminal cases received from direct supervisor;
· Timely make decisions to refuse initiating criminal proceedings if circumstances precluding criminal proceedings exist;
· Perform investigation organizational, planning and record-keeping work;
· Execute instructions of direct supervisor and supervising prosecutor in pending criminal cases to ensure criminal proceedings are conducted purposefully and without unjustified delay;
· Make decisions in criminal cases regarding investigation direction and investigation conduct, except in cases requiring court decision or prosecutor consent;
· Ensure legality of made decisions and timely conduct of investigation activities;
· Independently consider submissions, complaints and requests in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Requirements for candidates:
· Compliance with requirements established in Articles 4 and 7 of the Special Service Career Law for officials of Ministry of Interior system institutions and Prison Service;
· First-level professional higher education (legal sciences, civil and military protection, commerce and administration, social and human sciences, computer science);
· State (Latvian) language proficiency – highest level C;
· Category B driver's license;
· Activated secure electronic signature.
