As a Pavement Engineer with us, you will work on planning, ordering, and monitoring measures that affect traffic flow and safety in Umeå – every day. With us, you will have an important role in keeping Umeå's streets, bike paths, and other surfaces safe, sustainable, and passable – year-round. About the Role You work with the operation and maintenance of the municipality's streets, squares, and bike paths, focusing on pavement. This includes asphalt, paved surfaces, and gravel roads. The role is independent and varied. You drive many matters yourself – from surveying to follow-up – while collaborating with colleagues and contractors. You also contribute with an operations perspective to projects, building permits, and detailed plans. Work alternates between planning and fieldwork (approximately 70/30 depending on season). The pace varies throughout the year – summer is more intensive while winter involves more monitoring, planning, and development work. During winter, the role may also include leading and monitoring parts of snow clearing on our streets and bike paths. Your work includes: Planning, prioritizing, ordering, and monitoring pavement measures Surveying needs and assessing interventions Handling excavation permits and restoration, conducting inspections, checks, final and warranty inspections Cooperating with contractors, consultants, and internal functions Contributing an operations perspective to reconstruction projects, building permit issues, detailed plans, and other submissions On-call duty may be part of the role, which involves handling acute events affecting traffic flow and safety. Your Workplace You will be part of the Pavement Team within Street Operations, a team of five people that is part of a larger work group of approximately 19 colleagues with various competencies in the operations area. We're Looking For Someone Who Has: Education or documented experience with operation and maintenance work on streets, squares, and bike paths Class B driver's license Fluent spoken and written Swedish, plus basic English It's an advantage if you have experience leading and monitoring operation and maintenance work, especially in pavement.
