The Prison Administration is a state administration institution under the Ministry of Justice that implements state policy in the field of detention as a security measure and the execution of deprivation of liberty as a criminal penalty.
An official is a person with appropriate professional education, qualifications, and a special service rank who has taken an oath and serves in the Administration. The rights and duties of officials are determined by the Prison Administration Law and the Law on the Service of Officials with Special Service Ranks of Institutions in the Ministry of Interior System and the Prison Administration.

Candidate Requirements:
Compliance with requirements set forth in the Law on the Service of Officials with Special Service Ranks of Institutions in the Ministry of Interior System and the Prison Administration:
- Latvian citizen;
- Age 18 to 50 years;
- First-level professional higher education in law, civil and military protection, social and human sciences, teacher education and educational sciences, social welfare, humanities, business, and administration;
- Latvian language proficiency at level C, stage 2;
- Physical fitness in accordance with requirements set by the Cabinet of Ministers (Cabinet of Ministers Regulations No. 288 of 28.05.2013 "Physical Fitness Requirements for Officials with Special Service Ranks of Institutions in the Ministry of Interior System and the Prison Administration");
- Health condition and psychological characteristics in accordance with requirements set by the Cabinet of Ministers (Cabinet of Ministers Regulations No. 970 of 21.11.2006 "Regulations on Health Condition and Psychological Characteristics Required for Officials with Special Service Ranks of Institutions in the Ministry of Interior System and the Prison Administration and Candidates for Official Positions, and the Procedure for Checking Health Condition and Psychological Characteristics");
- Not convicted for an intentional criminal offense – regardless of conviction expungement or removal;
- Not sentenced for an intentional criminal offense with exemption from punishment;
- Not prosecuted for committing an intentional criminal offense, except where the official has been prosecuted but criminal proceedings have been terminated on rehabilitative grounds;
- Not declared legally incapable in accordance with the law;
- Not dismissed from service in the Ministry of Interior System or Prison Administration due to disciplinary action – dismissal from service;
- Good computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel);
- Ability to plan and organize own work, to prioritize tasks;
- Good communication skills, high psychological resilience;
- Ability to work both in a team and individually;
- High sense of responsibility, analytical thinking, ability to work under conditions of increased intensity.
Duties:
- Implement addiction reduction programs for convicted prisoners;
- Coordinate the placement of inmates in the department cell;
- Conduct in-depth assessment of inmates' risks and needs;
- Engage sentenced individuals in education, employment, social work, psychological assistance, and recreational activities in accordance with the resocialization plan, respecting the conditions of the addiction reduction program; conduct initial or repeated assessment of the prisoner's risk and needs, participate in drafting the resocialization plan;
- Prepare assessments of prisoners' participation in addiction reduction programs;
- Assess prisoners' risks and needs according to competence, participate in drafting and implementing the resocialization plan;
- Conduct meetings and classes as provided for within the addiction reduction program;
- Conduct individual counseling with prisoners;
- Organize, conduct, and participate in group classes and recreational activities in accordance with the addiction reduction program sub-program;
- Prepare prisoners for transfer and release from the detention facility;
- Assess relationships between prisoners, take timely measures to prevent conflicts among inmates, prepare reports in case of violations of sentence serving regime requirements;
- Enter appropriate information in the Prisoner Information System;
- Conduct searches of prisoners, their belongings, and premises.
