We are seeking a University Director who wants to help develop the university's operational support and administrative management with a focus on creating the best possible conditions for education, research, and collaboration.
As University Director at BTH, you lead, drive, and develop the university's shared operational support and provide strategic and close support to the Rector and the university's management. In this role, you contribute to creating efficient, lawful, and purposeful processes that strengthen the conditions for academic excellence and societal benefit in synergy.
Through communicative, strategic, and forward-thinking leadership, you play a central role in leading BTH's continued development and transformation as a state authority toward a globally relevant and recognized technical university.
About the Assignment
Work as University Director involves long-term strategic work combined with day-to-day operations in an organization where many stakeholders have different perspectives.
The University Director reports directly to the Rector and is placed at the management unit and is a member of the management council.
As head of the shared operational support, you lead, coordinate, and develop the common support and service functions at BTH. The assignment entails overall responsibility for ensuring that operational support contributes to BTH achieving its strategic goals in education, research, and collaboration.
Are You the Person We're Looking For?
As University Director, you are responsible for ensuring that BTH fulfills its mission as a state authority through appropriate management, systematic monitoring, and lawful administrative processes. You drive and implement strategic decisions and measures regarding organization, management, and administrative development. You develop, plan, and coordinate university-wide administrative processes and operational management systems.
An important part of the assignment is to strengthen the role of operational support as a professional, trustworthy, and value-creating partner to the academic community and other parts of the organization. You actively work to build confidence in operational support through clarity, dialogue, quality, and good understanding of the core business's needs.
The role includes providing qualified support to the Rector, including in contacts and negotiations within and outside the university, as well as representing BTH in relevant external and internal contexts. You coordinate and lead the work of preparing decision materials for the University Board and other decision-making bodies, and you are responsible for ensuring that decisions made are implemented and followed up.
Furthermore, you have overall responsibility for the university's operational support, which comprises seven departments: Finance, HR, IT, Communication, Campus Support, Educational Support, and Library and Student Support. Operational support includes approximately 150 employees in total.
We are looking for someone who has:
relevant academic degree
experience in senior management positions with budget and personnel responsibility
experience in leading through managers
experience in driving development, change, and governance issues from a holistic perspective
very good knowledge of public administration and its regulations
very good ability to express yourself well in both Swedish and English, orally and in writing.
It is meritorious if you have:
experience leading complex organizations, preferably from the university and higher education sector or state operations
experience implementing efficiency improvements or improvements to decision processes and operational support
legal expertise in administrative and contract law
To succeed in this role, you are a confident, clear, and unpretentious leader with high integrity. You have the ability to create engagement, participation, and good collaboration across organizational boundaries. You are decisive, communicative, and development-oriented, while having a good understanding of day-to-day operations. With a coaching and trust-based leadership style, you build responsibility, delegate clearly, and follow up on operations in a structured and trust-building manner.
