What is included in the role?
The work involves assessing habitat types in our Natura 2000 areas based on remote sensing and various forms of geodata, and reporting information in different systems such as webGIS and ArcGIS Pro. The work may include digital aerial image interpretation and field surveys. The unit also has other GIS-related tasks where ecological/biological expertise is needed. Among other things, we work on developing value areas for forests and within our ongoing work with area protection matters. You will independently compile data, conduct background analyses, inventory forest areas, and report results.
This assignment is part of the County Administrative Board's work with the nature restoration regulation to implement the EU regulation on nature restoration. Good cooperation with external parties is a success factor for this work, which is why we are looking for someone with good communication skills.
The work is carried out mainly in the office, but field visits are also required. A driver's license is therefore a requirement.
You may also handle nature reserve matters according to the Environmental Code. This involves conducting nature value assessments, gathering and compiling information from various sources, weighing different interests, delimiting and describing areas, and developing decision documents and management plans. These tasks include having contacts internally and with other authorities, municipalities, landowners, and the public.
Are you the one we are looking for?
For this role, we want you to have:
- University education in natural sciences with a focus on biology, ecology, or other education that the employer deems relevant,
- Basic knowledge of GIS,
- Good communication skills in Swedish, both oral and written,
- Driver's license (Category B).

Your working style is structured and you are accustomed to handling multiple tasks simultaneously.

- Knowledge of habitat types in accordance with the Habitats Directive,
- Good species knowledge and experience with nature value inventories in forests or other natural environments,
- Knowledge and experience in digital aerial image interpretation, qualified knowledge of ArcGIS and preferably experience with ecological analyses in ArcGIS Pro,
- Experience with area protection or its regulations,
- Experience working at a government authority,
- Knowledge of marine or freshwater environment nature values.
More about us and the role
The Environmental Department currently has approximately 120 employees. The department consists of six units, with the Landscape and Nature Protection unit being one of them. The unit currently has 13 employees. A large part of the unit's task is to work with area protection, that is, the establishment of nature reserves, nature conservation agreements, Natura 2000 areas, and associated tasks where the extent of shoreline protection is also part of this. The unit is also responsible for strategic assignments for environmental goals, outdoor recreation, and the national city park.
